Hello friends!

I am new and this is my first time posting. I don't really know where to pose this question, so I hope that luck will find me if I post it here.

Anyhow, I am looking for a deactivated Russian made Mosin 91/30 which cocks and clicks; this is purely for display. Would anybody here know who I could contact to buy one of these for a price somewhere hopefully around $200, with the absolute limit being something like $400 (with the shipping and everything included). It would be nice if the Mosin could include a bayonet and a sling.

If this transaction were to happen, would I experience any trouble acquiring it (no PAL)?

One of the key desires here is that the Mosin still can be cocked and dry fired.

Thank you for the help!

There reason you can't get a PAL? Just curious.
A net search turns up all kinds of places with Mosin rifles and accessories. No DEWATs though. No demand for 'em.
DEWATS must be completely inoperable these days. No working anything. They're basically oddly shaped paperweights.
You can have 3 working Mosins, likely in decent condition, for $450 from Frontier. Single rifles are less from other shops. some what less than $200.
Bayonets and sling usually don't come with any milsurp any more. They're collectable all by themselves. Slings run about $20. A bayonet about $30ish.

Sunray is right(!), I think you'll have a hard time finding a dewat of a very common NR rifle. Are you seeking one because of a historical connection? Just curious, as a PAL is fairly easy to get, but if you have no interest in any other guns, I get it.

go get your PAL live mosins go for about $190 plus tax I don't think you will find a #### and click since most would have been deactivated not long ago. besides these guns seen a lot of combat and if it were not for the men and women using them in the eastern front we would all be speaking German right now they should be respected even the beat to hell cheaper ones because that have probably seen more combat then the really good examples

Thank you for all of the replies.

I haven't gotten around to getting my PAL yet, just never really set aside the time for it. I'm planning to go and get it sometime in January.

The reason why I want a deactivated Mosin is just so that I could hang it on display along with my shashka (cossack sabre). However, the reason why I want one that can #### and click is because I may occasionally play with it when I watch some Russian war movie.

You can still display a working non-restricted rifle like the Mosin Nagant. It'll just have to be cable locked to something good and solid like a wall stud. My vote is for get yer dang PAL and buy one. Collector's Source is likely a good place to start if you simply must have a dewat (shudder). You can probably buy a Mosin AND an SVT for not much more than you'd spend on a deactivated MN. And as mentioned, no new ones can be #### and click....

Wouldn't a NR rifle only need a trigger lock ?

Not sure you would be able to #### and click it after deactivated.
Removing the firing pin would be the easiest and obvious route, but then there would be nothing for the spring to surround and hold back in order to release.

New deacts aren't #### and click and I doubt that an older deactivation would be done on a Mosin, but that is speculation.
According to the FA, to display a NR it has to be trigger or cable locked, you can't just remove the firing pin.
Super ####ing dumb I know but I double checked and it is not a legal way to display a NR.

You can display a real rifle with a trigger lock or with the bolt removed.

If you want to play with it during "Enemy at the Gates", install the bolt or remove the trigger lock.

I am wondering if one could buy a second bolt, remove the firing pin (or grind off the tip) maybe weld the pin channel, grind off some of the locking lug surface so that the bolt is no longer a "bolt", so it could be displayed with what looks like a bolt, but in actuality, qualify as "bolt removed".

Yeah I'm talking purely mechanically on the matter, not legally.

My vote would be for using a trigger lock for a working non-restricted display firearm . Some trigger locks are quite small now....and can be painted to blend in with the rifle......but if the OP does not have a PAL ; I doubt if he will be able to find a deactivated Mosin with a working bolt......but you never know . Probabley best to ask one of the dealers who carry Mosins if they have any tips.....

You won't occasionally play with it when watching movies. You'll always play with it when watching movies. Some guys have been doing that forever. Even with the silly storage laws. How do you think Roy, Saunders, Tory and Moffit, et al, survived? snicker. Mind you, you'll need more than just a Mosin to do it right.
