Hey guys,

I am seriously new to the shotgun and hunting game although I have been shooting ar15 style rifles for some time. Basically my question is, what is the best shotgun for use as a dear/ turkey gun that can have a red dot mounted on it?

I see that the mossberg 590a1 comes already drilled, but seeing as how a 20" barrel is not that great for turkey (from what I can understand) it makes sence to go with something more along the lines of the 870 with lots of barrel sizes floating around on EE.

Just looking for an opinion from some more expierienced hunters!

Cheers,

HH

Remington 870 express combo gun runs around $550. ish
also Mossberg has a nice combo gun same price range,
some places a little cheaper.
Both have nice cammo versions also.
Bird barrel and rifled slug barrels for both.

Mossberg 535 - 3 barrel combo......turkey barrel, rifle deer slug barrel and a 28" vent rib upland barrel. Its chambered in 3 1/2" and runs for about $600.00

Cant say off hand, i would just check some of the links.
Most gun shops in Ont, seem to get stuff from same gun runners, and prices
are generaly in same ball park with a couple of exceptions.
If no sponsor has them, google cabellas canada out of Winnipeg.
being as you live in East (HST), you would have no tax break ordering out of Province:(

Yeah tell me about it :(... but i guess you cant put a price on quality... unless its a Benelli...

leadslinger, would you know if that 870 would be drilled to accept a reciever rail? after that I wont bug you anymore haha

This is something that most optic shooters have a problem with when it comes to a combo gun = Expence

Most cases a slug and shot does not see the same Impact point on target and creates sighting in the gun everytime the barrel is changed. Don't settle with the "make do" thouights as it is not fair to the game you shoot.

Open sights are fine, but if your a optic's shooter look at seperate guns..

Just my opinion from experence...

Yes thats very true. How do you find canteliver barrel? Are they available in a Milspec weaver rail? From what you guys have said, it sounds like I should maybe stick with slug that has optics, but a iron sights for turkey?

My Remmington wasnt, so you would have to go with the side mount bracket
that attache's to the trigger group pin.
I my self installed fibre optics sights,
that work real nice.
Or, get a deer barrel that has a canteliver on the barrel,
cant remember what that is called.
Lots of guys prefer those.

HUGE, I shoot a Rem wingmaster with a cantaliever for slugs and it is great the best I ever used and a Bennelli Nova 20 gauge with a scope for turkeys the best there ever has been. Both guns I know if the game is in front of me, their in trouble...
