Debating on magnification for my savage mcmillan

Im debating on a x16 or x24 for my savage fcp
Mcmillan 24"

I shoot normally at 200 but want to be able to shoot farther if i want to and I would like to be able to see my holes clearly at 200

You literally posted this same question in another thread here a few days ago, the only difference being it was a Remington. If you want advice, please post your caliber, intended uses, etc.

Is it a 308, 223?

Are you punching holes in paper only? Or do you intend to take game with it as well?

Maybe you should invest in a spotting scope.

I posted the same question for a different gun with a smaller barrel

it is a 308 and more for punching paper

If it's for target shooting 24x would be the min. but 32x would be my choice

More is better, but cheap mag is worse than less mag with quality glass. If it is target work you'd be happy with the target scopes that are 32x and up....

I can see my .308 bullet holes at 300 yards with my 12X50mm S&B, clearly. A good 16X should work fine, the quality of the glass is more important than a ton of mag imho.
