Right now, my flat top will be prepared with a 1/2" flat top riser base. These can be made by:
* Yankee Hill Manufacturing
* ARMS # 5
* GG & G
* MWG (I could be wrong)
* First SAMCO (I believe)
* Cheap Chinese airsoft models on Ebay for around $ 30 (but you get what you pay for)
I've had experience with the ARMS # 5 (Love their quality), the Yankee Hill Mfg (love their quality and relocatability of cross bolts), and cheap chinese airsoft version (love their price point and they have not broken on me, yet)
But when all is said and done, this flat top riser is a Picatinny rail / weaver ring compatible. Then you can get hold of some Weaver, Millett Angle-Loc, Burris Zee rings, or any more expensive tactical ring like MWG, Leupold mark4, TPS, Badger Ordnance rings and mount them on top of the flat top riser.
The riser I bought Yankee Hill, set me back about $ 50 landed here. Then I'm tossing on some Millett Angle-Loc rings $ 50 from Ellwood Epps in Orillia. I will be mounting my Leupold MR/T 3x9x36mm M1 SPR scope on the flat top for Service Conditions shooting.
The reason I'm advocating the use of the flat top riser base is that this riser base allows you to use Weaver / Picatinny rings that you MAY have sitting around your toolbox/spare parts bin ALREADY. I always have to be sensitive to other people's budgets since not everyone on this board or forum can afford $ 125 USD for Badger Ordnance rings. Also, many of you are not necessarily competing (need some reliable rings) or deploying (must HAVE bombproof rings and riser base like an ARMS# 5).
In the past I used to mount my 1" tube diam. Leupold Tactical 3.5x 10 x 40mm matte finish duplex on my AR flat top using Millett Extra High Angle-Loc rings which I bought directly from the kind Millett folks in California. Those extra high and high rings by ANY maker are tougher to find.... ENTER the 1/2" riser base that allows anyone to employ existing Weaver compatible rings. Life is easier
Work smarter, not harder....
