Decent affordable compact magnifed optic for carry handle mount

Hey all,

My iron sight fu is weak beyond 100 yards

Therefore, I am looking for an optic to mount on my carry handle (I know, I know - get a flat top. That's in the future probably).

However, I don't want to mount a full bodied scope. I like the size of the original colt 1-4 but assume there must be modern products worth looking at.

So my question to the round table: is there a real (not ncstar or the like) compact optic, that gives basic magnifcation (variable not necessary), with real glass for around $300?

Suggestions would be welcomed.

I got a Burris AR-332 (3X) for just over $400. It has both a flat top mount, and a carry handle mount adapter.
