I just got a Glock 17 gen 4. The ammo that has caught my eye at the local gun shops in Vancouver is American Eagle 9mm Luger/9x19 124gr FMJ. Is this stuff Ok or would I regret buying 1000 rounds and find out later I should have got something else. My purpose is to train for self defense so I'm also wondering if the same ammo in 147 grain might be better. Any thoughts would be vastly appreciated.

A Glock will eat anything, forget about self defence as your only enemy will be paper.

:eek:It is clear you are a newbie. Nobody here trains for self defense. We just try to hit bullseyes as quickly and accurately as we can.

How did you answer the CFC operator when asked the purpose of your Glock purchase? Self defense or target shooting? Just curious.

Just buy whatevers cheap and shoot the hell out of it! time behind the firing line is what you need right now. You'll want to become more proficient with your pistol before even considering what the perfect ammo/load is...

x2.

My glock eats AE like it's a fat kid at a buffet.

Point taken. I just wasn't sure about triaining with an ammunition that has different recoil than what I'd likely settle on. I imagine training with 124 grain would be a reasonable starting point.

124 gr is as good as it gets for a 9mm, arguably the best all around round for 9mm . I don't think you will find a lot of black suits shooting 147gr, mostly 124gr fwiw. Your glock will enjoy a steady diet of anything you feed it. buy lots and shoot often.
