Does anyone have a recommendation for a decent gun cleaning kit. I just purchased one from Amazon and it's on it's way back. Just cheap crap. Brass rod thread snapped off second use. The plastic jags don't thread on to the brass rods, they just spin inside. Not looking for anything special just one that works well and doesn't self destruct. Thanks.

I recommend buying individual equipment that you need. Quality rod, proper size jags, etc. rather than a "kit". Then add to it as needs change. If you don't have access to a store with good selection, there are many on-line mail-order places.

I agree with buying individual components rather than kits for cleaning. I like one-piece rods and brass jags instead of the usual jointed rods and plastic tips. Your expense will be higher in the long run, but purchase as needed and you will end up with better performing tools and a whole lot less frustration.

Pick a brand that appeals to you, mixing brands can be a frustration itself as the thread patterns probably won't interchange.

A kit for multiple firearms or a specific use kit?

For rifles it is best to get a one piece quality rod... I have about a dozen Parker Hale rods... I keep buying them used from estates. But I don't need more than one for my .22 and .243 now...

I will have a bunch for sale at the October gun show here in Victoria. Check your local shows.

Most everything I shoot is in 30 cal so I got a one piece cleaning rod in that size. I own a Tipton brush set that has brass brushes in damn near everything available. I also bought the smaller pistol size tipton rod as well

I got a couple 'jointed brass rods' a couple years ago for about $10 (back then) and put them together tightly, then filed and polished the joints so there is no 'bump'. Then I leave them assembled and hang 'em on the wall along with the Teslong cables (2x too).
Then I buy individual 'all-brass' brushes, nylon brushes and use Loop patch holders since I pull the rods to avoid flex hitting the bore. Local BP has very little in cleaning supplies so A-zon is my go to, but my Prime is going to go away 'cause I don't need much any more.

For a sectioned/field rod that runs amazing true/straight...Pro Shot products.

I use a 22 cal rod/ w/2-inner/outer delrin bore guide for most cleaning.
Bore Stix for my 30cal M1A/M1 Garand & a 35cal rod for my 50BMG's.
Bore Stix for match/competition rifles.

I'm just here to echo the "don't get a kit" folks. Get a good one-piece rod, a set of brushes and a set of jags (or individual pieces for your bore sizes), a bore guide, and a solvent, copper remover, and oil. Done.

I bought a couple of those 30 cal swiss army cleaning kits at auction. They seem to have a lot of stuff for $30
