I deal with a fair number of Taxidermists. 4 alone from the state of Virgina- several from Minnesota- 2 from Wisconsin- 1 from Michigan and a very good one from Ottawa. I used to skin a lot of fur for the taxidermist market as well as moose and deer capes and fish. I don't do much anymore because of the hassels involved with the MNR--thats another topic. Point I'm trying to make is that in my experience, more than most things, is that you get what you pay for. There's not only a lot of work involved but it also involves a lot of art work. Try getting an oil painting commissioned from a picture and you'll quickly realize what I'm saying. I have a friend who gave me a mounted deer head--nice 10 pointer--he had no room to hang it in his house. Cost was $250 by a part-time Taxi and it is a fairly nice job. I have another friend who paid $400 for his but when you walk into his house you think a real live deer just stuck his head through the wall. Just my 2-cents worth
