Well, so far on this forum you guys have helped me find the right gun for me, given me some recommendations on ammo, how about some glass now? This will be mounted on my CZ452 American.

I have a --firm-- budget of 500 for glass. This does not include rings, those are separate. I do not wish to spend more than that for a scope just yet.

I have my eye on the Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x44 V-Plex. I've seen endless recommendations online for a Leupold VX-3 6.5-20x40 online, but that's substantially outside of my price range. Can you fine folk point me in the right direction?

the mueller APT is one i am very impressed with. its essentially the meuller APV with two differences. 1) 30mm tube instead of 1" (so more elevation and light). 2) "tactical" finger adjustable turrets. the price difference isnt too much. when i was looking around it was an extra $30-$40. i actually found a great deal and ordered it from hookbag and had it in under a week (http://www. hookbag .ca/product/HOD0CWOG5). a few people at the range who have looked through it have been impressed at the quality for under $300.

Am also now looking at a Leupold VX-2 3-9x33, as a lower magnification, higher quality scope. If anyone can speak to this, I'd appreciate it.

Just to get things straight, the APV has turret caps that screw on/off, while the APT doesn't? Two questions about them...

1) does the APT have a feature to lock the turrets in place? Like they lift up/down or something?

2) does the APV have a small tab or something under the caps so you can turn it by hand? Or does it require a coin, key, or whatever fits into some small slot?

These scopes have peaked my interest. How would you compare them to say, a Bushnell Elite 3200 (~$210-250), Vortex Diamondback (~$280) or a Leupold VX-1/2 ($250-$400)?

I just ordered a Mueller 4-16x50 AO Tactical from amazon for $250. I've read good things about them and am looking forward to trying it out on my 22. Its bound to be better than the old Weaver K4 that's on it now. Unfortunately I misread the ad and it's not quite the same as the 4.5-14 AO Tactical that I was looking at but was out of stock. No exposed turrets, 40 moa adjustment instead of 80, and 1/8" clicks I stead of 1/4".

1) no, they are target caps. so they are labelled with MOA click adjustments. its great if you are shooting at different ranges because you can just set the zeo on 25 yards and then record the elevation you need to set for different ranges. saves a lot of time because you dont have to re zero whenever you move.
2) the apv has caps which screw off and then you need a coin to adjust it. if you always shoot at the same range and you never need to adjust elevation thats more than good enough.

as for comparing them. from all the research i did if i wanted screw on caps the mueller APV was the best bang for your buck. it has been highly rated and recommended by rimfire communities all over the internet. for finger adjustable turrets the APT was the best bang for your buck again from the same sources. the only criticism about the scope was the limited critical eye relief (the area your eye needs to be from the scope to get a good sight picture) when at max magnification. however, this is the same with all scopes unless you start to spend hundreds more. it is an amazing combination plinking and rest scope. if you are trying to do rest shooting at 50 yards the 14x magnification is the min i would go with. for plinking 4.5x zoom is perfect.

yea you wanted the APT which is the same as i have. you can cancel the order with amazon if you want (or return). hookbag has the APT in stock when i checked to provide the link above. it is a little more but a great scope.
