Hey everyone,

I am asking for some help to understand, and decipher the story of a rifle I recently purchased. I appreciate any contribution made... and now...

I recently picked up this PU Sniper, it is a 1944 Tula. I am new to Mosins and Milsurp so I am seeking help from the gracious experts of this forum.
This is what I know as of right now (or at least think I know):

It is a 1944 Tula made rifle.
It has the CH stamp designating this a Sniper Rifle
The bolt is a Tula made bolt that appears to correctly match the receiver.
The buttplate matches the bolt and receiver as well.
The scope and mount look correct with matching numbers, but they suggest repairs and/or refurbishment in 1962.

Now onto the mystery stuff. (Mysterious to me that is)

The mag plate on the bottom looks to be in the same condition as the scope and bears markings of possible repairs/refurbishment as well, most likely in 1962, but the numbers match.
The stock is a bit more of a mystery to me, there is a star that can still be seen (although difficult) on the right side of the buttstock. Does this mean its the correct Tula stock?
There appears to be an "H" or something like it stamped into the bottom of the stock.
There are several other markings on the receiver, bolt, and stock which I am not sure about. I will update this list with the other markings, and details of what they are.

For now I will include a link to a photobucket containing a bunch of photos of the PU... I think there are some of my laminate 91/30 in there too so just ignore those.
I tried to get photos of everything, but I will get a series of photos solely of the markings or symbols and organize those to be deciphered.
I was thinking of doing some drawings or etchings of the ones that are much harder to pick up due to the finish put on the stock.

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me understand the story of this rifle.

Cheers

There is no mystery here. It is run of the mill arsenal refurbished PU sniper rifle. She has modern laser etching russian export markings. Stock, bolt, mag and mag floor are replaced parts, mount force matched to rifle. Basically typical refurb mixmaster. As for technological marking I would recommend this book (if you can find one) - http://mosin.info/book.html

Rifle was originally made in 1944 at Factory No. 536 in Tula.

The mount and stock look to be post-war replacement parts. However, the stock could have been produced at Factory No. 536 and later had the notch behind the rear barrel band enlarged. Scope appears to be a late 1943 Progress (Plant NKV No. 357 in Omsk) which is not original to the rifle. The date on the scope lets you know when it was refurbished.

As Horilka mentioned, all the major components are replacements and have been scrubbed and stamped with a forced matching serial number.

All the small parts and markings are just inspection markings, proof markings, that sort of thing.

Markings indicate this is from the recent Tulsky export, you can read about them here: http://www.russian-mosin-nagant.com/sniper_exports/index.html

Rifle looks good overall and will make a nice shooter.
