OK, I own a Nork M-305 (M14 clone). I shoot it, but not all that much. Today I noticed Lever is having a sale on the Nork CQ-311/M-311 AR-15 clones
($599). I could reload the latter cheaper (or buy factory) and I could acquire the newly approved 10 round mags for extra fun. Can't afford to have 'em both. What do you think?

I'd say sell the Nork and buy a non-nork AR15 if that is where you want to be. Keep in mind you are also going from Non-Restricted to Restricted.

Otherwise keep the M-305

If you hunt then keeping the M14 is a no brainer. If not, I'd say whatever rifle you plan on shooting more. I traded out a mini 14 in mint shape for a new M14 I know was worth less, but the mini 14 had sat in my safe for a decade unused. I'd use the same thinking to make your decision...

You can't be taking the AR to the potatoe guy's 'Crown Land', if you were ever considering it. C'mon, you can afford both.

Both are fun to shoot. Probably the m14 more so, but also in the price of ammo.

The M14-copy is a closer clone than the AR15-copy is. Most M14 parts will fit, but I don't think the same can be said of AR15 parts.

Interesting point MLE....
Can anyone confirm the 'incompatibility' of AR parts in the CQ...?
I've been thinking of for going the 2nd M305 for the CQ, and Lever is makin' it hard to resist...

The Nork AR-15 will not be customizeable at all. And if you have any thoughts about buying one of those, you may as well just spend the extra $400 (when you manage to get the cash together) and by an AR-180B. They're non-restricted and you can do anything you want to 'em.

Most people who buy the nork knock off of the AR-15 end up selling them and buying a real AR anyways. Why not skip that step?

And Bison, I was just at that crown land today shooting off the .22, teaching a girl how to shoot. You should come out sometime this coming week. Blast away at some chicken feeders I got set up.

Ar-15 furnature will fit a CQ, even collapasable stocks, I have one on mine. Barrels will not fit I believe, but trigger bits and carry handle scopes will fit, and if you want, you can put rails all over it as well.

Was it another pretty girl? 308 semi-auto's make them jiggle. I would like that!

Just checked out the Leverarms site. That goofy Norinco furniture would have to go right away! What would that cost?

Indeed the question.
In fact, unlike the VZ 58S, there is absolutely NO history, that I can find, of Marstar ever stocking/offering the CQ....
Within the last year, mind...I haven't had my PAL for all that long....

Perhaps Johnone could comment...?

I've built up TWO Norc AR-15 lower receivers
[and about three or four dozen complete AR15 rifles from parts ].
I'll just have to call BS on people saying the Norc AR 15 is not upgradable or parts compatible.

There are a few specific issues with some metric sized bits here and there, but most AR 15 parts WILL fit ...
eventually.

Nothing that your trusty Balvar 1 1/2 HP bench grinder, and 20 lb splitting maul can't fix.

I've got a refinished Norc AR lower on my 14.5" M-4 clone. This one was hard anodised by Dlask, fitted with an Armalite internal kit and a YHM skeleton stock. I have not noticed that it is any less reliable or accurate than any of my other AR builds.

The bad news about the Norc AR-15 rifles, is that they are painted. If looks matter to you, you can bead blast off the ugly old Chinese paint, and pay Dlask to refinish in anodising.
OR,
strip off the ugly paint and re-paint with expensive/durable/cool camo Duracoat or Guncoat.

If you buy a Norc AR-15 to start with, you will have just as much fun shooting it as the expensive GENUINE COOL AID versions. And later, if you decide to stick with the poodle shooters, you can spend your money on ammo now, and upgrades as the budget allows.

It would be hard to beat a Norc AR15 or a Norc M14 as the absolute best bang for the buck.

PS: I am currently selling one of my AR-15 rifles to fund ANOTHER Norc M-14 clone ... too bad you don't have a Glock 9mm or something else to throw in the pot and make up the difference on a trade. Or you could sell me your useless old Norc M-14 for cash now???

PPS: if anyone really cares, PM me, and I can send you some pics of a couple of Norc AR-15s that look as purty as the big name stuff .

And if you want technical differences and details about exactly where the Norc lowers vary from the non-metric brands, I can post more info.

In fact, I did post the details of my Norc AR lower builds last year ...
but that old thread was probably deleted or archived by now?

Nah. Wasn't a pretty girl. She might be pretty at the end of the year (she's going to the gym regularly right now). She's just a friend. I was talking to her about an hour ago, and she might get her PAL too. Not bad for shooting her first gun the same day. Hahaha

So you game? H Wally's in Vancouver and I don't have many people to shoot with these days. :(

The price of a non-norc AR15 would be higher than the 305 adn 311 combined, wouldn't it?

One thing to remember, we (Canada) are getting a sweet deal on Norc's right now because there is no where else to sell them, but when that supply runs out, as Canada (and the few other countries who still allow Chinese firearm imports) is NOT a large enough market to continue to supply to. When that happens we will have to start paying the real market price. Norinco is really dumping their products here at below market prices, but I am NOT complaining!

I am going to pick up another M305 why they are still cheap. pontcanna keep me in mind if you plan of selling.

Deckard,
I am considering the Marstar CZ-858 myself ...
but mainly because I've played around with way too many silly restricted poodle shooter AR-15s. I've still got two of these hanging around, and until I get time to work up a bunch of .300 Whisper loads for my spare AR 15 top end, a NON-restricted carbine that shoots 7.62X39, sounds very tempting. .
Maybe?

Would you care to explain your reasons for deciding the $ 650 CZ-858 [ with mags and kit ] is a better buy than a $ 599 AR 15?
Maybe you'll tip me over the edge, and I'll buy one.
thanks
