I am looking at getting to Service Rifle Matches and/or Precision matches at my local range. Currently I have a Colt Comp HBAR shooting sub MOA with the following specs:

Magpul PRS
MOE/EGRO2 Grip
BCM Mod4 Charging Handle
12" YHM Diamond FF Rail
Dlask A6 brake
Gen 1 SpectreDR

My questions to you are:
1. Should I return to rifle to stock in order to compete in Service Rifle matches?
2. Should I build a new rifle for Service Rifle matches?
3. Should I attempt to compete in Precision matches with my current rifle?

I cant quite make up my mind on which way I want to go here. I simply can not afford a precision build right now. I'm looking at $1000 max for a Service rifle build if I were to leave my current build the way it is. Possibly drop 1k on a high power optic and shoot precision? I'm at a loss as to what to do! Throw your ideas out there, good or bad.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Practice, particularly in position shooting makes more difference in Service Rifle than bells and whistles installed on a rifle. Just go ahead, train and shoot. Put the money into range time and ammunition.
If the rifle shoots moa, you could use it for Precision shooting back as far as the .223 is effective. A different scope might be an idea.

Sorry, I guess I should clarify. Service Rifle regs state that the rifle must be in an unaltered state with a maximum magnification of 4x. That's why I would have to convert back to stock or build a new rifle for those particular matches.

Well, it wouldn't take much to put it back to factory. Keep an eye open for parts taken off when rifles are upgraded. Shouldn't cost much at all.

I have all of the original Parts as I did all of the work myself. I love the rifle the way it is and I'd prefer to leave that way.I'd have no choice but to convert to stock if I want to compete or build another one. I just cant seem to make a decision.

Well, the conversion doesn't involve anything permanent - that's one of the great things about the AR.

The free float is the only thing concerning me. Will I encounter any additional wear and tear switching back and forth monthly? It almost seems more worthwhile to have a dedicated "Service Rifle"

Just out of curiosity, if it says it must be stock... If you buy your rifle with a CTR stock... Wouldn't that be considered stock? Or do they mean that it needs to have the A2 buttstock?

Anyways, I'd return it to stock and get a decent optic... The Vortex 1-4x is really good for the price. I have a Millet DMS and it's half the cost of the Vortex, and it's pretty good too

A2 or adjustable without a cheek riser. My optic is top tier, the only reason I could change optic is for precision. I COULD do it with with a x4, but I wouldn't expect to do well.
