decoy question

Go ahead, you're kinda splitting hairs here ... if you're allowed to use decoys, don't fret that you can afford to use better ones than some other folks. Kinda like worrying that your gun is too good or your 4x4 is too good compared to what others have and so in some way that isn't fair. If you can afford great stuff use it, don't guilt yourself about it being able to afford better than average stuff, enjoy.

Nope.

I had one out yesterday and the high flying ducks ignored it.

A few low flyers, singles and pairs would cruise over for a look.

They're safe around me though.

I made some absolutely spectacular misses on what should have been easy shots.

I have found now that a lot of ducks 'know' that these arent real ducks...they will be coming and clue in and skirt the spread..although the occasional dufous finds their way into the spread

There is a strong movement in the US to bad spinners but as long as they are legal then... spin away! We use one from time to ime. Find they are real effective on field ducks but a pain in the a## over water. had the thing blow over couple times, water darn near wrecks them!

Wreck em, my wing fell off and sank!! That was a p''ss off,The local birds pick up on them pretty fast with the younger ones being the first to take the fall. When the migrators start showing you can really tell ,use them yes but a good call is just as important, as Ogden Nash says we're just trying to outwit a duck, wich can be humbling:p :p

yeah the ducks learn fast, they do have remotes now that only spin the wings for a few secons at a time...more realistic.

I also just bought one of those remote controlled decoys...all it is is half a decoy shell on a remote controlled boat... just to have fun with in those calm mornings when the decoys arent moving. Since I aint about to shoot those dumb mergansers, I cant wait to see what happens when I start ramming the live ducks with it.
I can hardly wait to t-bone one its gotta be funny

P.S. stupid duck....outsmarted me again.....

I bought one this year after hunting with a buddy that has one and i love them. they are best on lonely hens or 2-3 duck sized flocks at best. i had a flock of about 15 teal land almost on top of it twice. i ended up busting the button on mine a couple weeks ago cause i kind of dunked it in the water and then the button froze. definantly get the remote that turns it off and on. i think the best moving decoy of all time are the ones that swim. movement in your decoy spread is key and live ducks will ALWAYS TRUMP decoys!!!
