decoys left out unattended

been hunting the marsh edge of a lake for 15 years same area recently guys got in behind us the hunted one night then next morning we were out early heard no other boats or shooting near us but the ducks were drawn in behind us all morning ruining our hunt which was unusual after 15 years we know the patterns

anyways we wrap up our mourning and decide to get back there the guys have several blinds and ALL their duck and geese decoys were out unattended at each blind (each blind has the same sign with initials on it) this is a public lake


so what's the deal here my buddy wanted to grab their decoys (we don't need them) as its public lake my boat so I said no BUT I told him next week if its the same we will grab them as its interfering with our hunt

we are not going to confront them as that never goes well and I don't want the hassle

this is in southern Ontario

I don't care and cant stop them from hunting there its a public area but by leaving decoys set up unattended they screw my hunt

what's opinion here?
 
I used to leave my stuff out. It was on private land, and one day it was all gone. So someone walked out in the pond and grabbed my decoys and it wasn't my grandpa. But i knew the risk leaving decoys on the pond. I honestly wasnt even disappointed I knew damn well that was going to happen.

On private land is different.

On public land, if there's a good hunting spot, it's very poor sportsmanship to leave your crap there for half the season, whether or not you're hunting it. It ruins everyone else's hunts in proximity to that spot, whether or not you're there.

Tell them thanks for wrecking your spot and you'll be using their blinds and dekes from now on. Don't worry,they'll be cleaned up and gone toot sweet. It's Crown land,so,there's FA they can do about it.

Sounds like the typical this is my spot kind of person . so I will just leave my gear out F the rest of ya . I would take up residence in the unattended blind and decoys . I like this approach after all it is public land . if you want a certain blind on a certain day be up early .
 
I have the same thing happen every now and then. Usually for opening weekend. I have no problem if hunters want to leave their decoys out over night for the opening weekend as long as the decoys are not put out before the season opens. But when the hunt is over, take your stuff with you. It doesn't sit well with me if they are left out all season. I also have no problem with people marking their spot ahead of opening day, which is usually done by hanging an empty jug with name written on it. But again, take that marker with you when you are done for the day and know that you don't own the spot for the rest of the season.

Yes. These are the unwritten rules. But in the past decade, I've seen more and more guys thinking they "own" a specific spot. I guess it's just one more way we're seeing selfishness manifest itself these days.
 
I seen that once before only 100 yards away from my blind. I picked the decoys up and put them in there blind. I didn’t want to steal from them or chase them away, I just wanted them to know that they can’t claim territory on public land.

It just sounds to me that this is the op's position on "his spot"...it seems that his decoying method isn't working as good as "the other guys" and is pissed about it. On private land, the guy with permission to use has a leg up on anybody else but...on public, the "other guy" doesn't have any more rights than the OP but neither does the OP just because the "other guys" hunting methods differ from his

The only thing I can see that the "other guys" are guilty of is "littering" by leaving their set-ups out unattended but the OP seems to be saying that his blinds stay out and he just removes his decoys, if this is the case he is equally guilty of any wrong-doing of the "other guys".

NO your 100% wrong we have a blind we built and have used for 15 years PUBLIC lake we DO NOT own it we get there early to make sure we get it, a few times we have been beaten and we have alternative blinds we use

the issue if you read the original post is that these guys are leaving their decoys set up when they are not there so far its been since Friday night they have NOT been back the decoys are drawing birds away and causing them to flare and go away the spread is set up poorly
 
we didn't have a pen or paper otherwise we would have left a note I'm going to pull the decoys tangle the lines in a giant knot and place in each blind this time if left out again I have to assume they didn't want them and ill take them
