Dedicated .22lr upper

For what it's worth I got a Chiappa. The upper receiver was PLASTIC so I tossed it and put a Gen 1 (no forward assist) Colt on it. Love it. The Chiappa bolt doesn't have provision for forward assist, on their receiver the forward assist button is a dummy.

I'm looking too, and I wonder if I should use the Chiappa parts as well to convert a norc upper.

I've just had news that NEA is not producing rimfire parts right now.

I'm running a cmmg conversion so mag compatibility is a must. I don't like the conversion much because leading is a bugger

I started out with the CMMG bolt conversion, then got a 16" Tactical Solutions M4 dedicated .22 upper. I was not impressed with the TacSol, the accuracy was mediocre and the BCG had a small clip holding it together that was easily lost. Then I got a 9" dedicated CMMG Mk4 PDW upper. I love shooting the CMMG upper but it has had a few issues too. It suffered from a broken firing pin spring and the add-on accessories for bolt hold open and forward assist have both been more trouble than they are worth. It also only works 100% reliably with CCI Mini Mag, so it is a little expensive to feed. Honestly my old S&W M&P 15-22 was the best of the bunch, but the 10 round mag limit spoiled the fun for me with that rifle.

Here is the CMMG on a RRA lower:

Thank you for the information regarding your experiences.

The accuracy with my conversion bolt is less than I get with my old 10/22. It's not horrible, when clean, but it degrades within a few hundred rounds.

Marstar has CMMG uppers available. I can recommend them from personal experience. I can also unrecommend tacsol and Chiappa.
Tacsol did their best with sending parts and advice to solve function issues but shipping it back and forth proved exhausting even though they went good for it. Excellent customer service but no solution. I sold it at a loss. The Chiappa was much worse. Zero wandered. Couldn't figure out why until I went to but the rifle in a range rack and the glue holding the barrel into the receiver let go. Yes, I said glue. I finally paid the price for a CMMG and that was the end of it. Reliable, accurate and more money than the other two. I keep learning the same lesson over and over. Don't even think about a conversion unit unless 3" 25 yd groups are good enough and you don't mind tearing the upper apart to remove as spent casing from the groove in the charging handle.

I just ordered a CMMG .22 barrel and collar from Beetle Outdoor

That should let me turn my Norc upper and CMMG conversion into a dedicated rimfire.

I was hoping it'd get here this week, but it seems not.
