Just checking the stand sites today and those dam deer are eating me out of house and home. On top of that they crapped all over the place. I've never seen such poor manners. Guess I'll just have to shoot one to make a point.:D

Apples and barley. I have two sizes of apples out there. They seem to be going for the larger size ones ( Golf ball size crab apples ). They leave the cores like humans then a couple of days later the cores are gone too. They are going nuts for the barely they even dig the ground around the pile to get every last seed. My partner and I have sat on stand a few times to watch and have seen deer each time. Today we even found fresh beds within 15 feet of the bait.

This is the first year I have tried this method and I already call it a great success even though I haven't even bought my tags yet. Couple more weeks and I'm at em with the smoke pole. Next year I'll stat a month sooner when I get back into archery.

They can sure be destructive little buggers....

LOL Thats a great pic.

I've watched deer eat apples many many times, sometimes its pretty funny the way they bite one, lift it up in the air and try to take a second bite with their head up high and the apple balanced in their mouth. Though I have to wonder about them being pigs, because most of the time I have been watching, the deer leave before eating every single apple. They usually come back later on to eat more. I wonder if you have a bear around ???

Another funny thing when you put out apples, is to look up in all the trees in the area, and you will be amazed how many apples are jammed into the nooks and crannies of the trees by squirrels.

Just threw the apples out on the ground in the spruce woods by trails and travel lanes. They always seem to find them. However their reaction to barley was unreal. Another good bait I've heard is dry field peas.

I know they like them because I was at a friends cabin that is in a hunting prohibited zone. He stepped outside picked up a pail of peas and started shaking the pail. In less than two minutes two does stepped right up and ate out of the pail while he was holding it. These were wild deer and not farm animals.

Unless it's legal to bait in your province, it would depend entirely on the mood of the CO that's checking you out...and your attitude at that time.

I thought the idea was that you put the feed out before the hunting season and stop just before the season opens. The deer will continue to come into the area even if there is no fresh feed out. Just ensure when you are placing the feed that you don't have your hunting gear with you.

Really... I guess I've never seen anyone complain they're allowed to bait, just people complain they're NOT allowed to bait.

I'm not sure that I approve but if you have lots of deer I guess it weeds out the ones who like eating... foolish deer.
