Deer Bullet

Bought a Tikka T3 30.06 earlier this year, and deer season is coming slowly but surely. Just wanted to hear some recommendations for deer ammo and grain. I was thinking 165 grain, but not too sure on which brand or point type. I know that the best is the one that shoots best in my gun, but I am looking for a starting point on tried and true ammo used by fellow hunters, as I dont plan on buying a box of every type of shell at the store.

Honestly, for deer pretty much any 06 ammo will do. You don't have to shoot .5 MOA groups. Myself, I'd buy inexpensive 180's and if they group 1.5 inches at 100 yards good to go and also good to go if you where to go moose hunting later. Enjoy the hunting experience and if you do get a deer that's a bonus. Good luck and happy hunting!

Yep deer are pretty small, soft and squishy so just about any bullet will do it. Sounds like you're on the right track with making sure they shoot well, good luck!

Most bullets will work fine, but I'd avoid a ballistic type bullet at close range. 165gr accubonds would be my choice. Cheaper bullets will work, but a box of ammo is not much $$ in this hobby...

I use heavy for caliber bullets with max speed not over 2500-2600FPS impact velocity in order to avoid meat waste from bloodshot. For 30-06Spr the 180gr bullet is just about perfect and the best performance from cup and core bullet (cheap ones) I had was from 180gr Speer Magtip. Hornady Interlock (older ones) and Remington Corelock bullets also do well. With those bullets you will be ready for any game in the woods, big and small....

Like said any 30-06 bullet will do just fine.

If I may say, ive used thease the last 2 years and had really good luck with deer dropping in there tracks.

i shoot sst 165 in my 30-06. every animal has been 100yrs and further had great expansion and nice exit holes. all shots we in the boiler room. i am going to be using 165 interbonds for my moose trip this year

150 gr Federal Blue box $20ish per box = a buck a bullet. Punny, but true.
