Hey guys,
I've been thinking a bit about the use of calls for deer hunting. This year was the first time I had used a bleat call and it worked on a nice whitetail buck, came right to me.
Having grown up in BC and done most of my early hunting in the Kamloops area, I mostly hunted mulies. Whitetails were certainly in the area, but not as plentiful. Never used a call, never heard of other hunters using calls, and that goes for rattling too.
What I want to know is if the deer calls work on the mulies to the same effect as the whitetails. I have never known mulies to be a very vocal species of deer, but I'm willing to admit I don't know everything, ha ha.
I realize that a lot of game will "check out" various calls due to curiosity. But that whitetail buck I took was very focused and coming quickly to my spot, I'm convinced that he was looking for some "action".
