Decided to buy one of those blue salt blocks today. Seen mixed reviews but we'll see. Usually I just buy the ones from Bass pro which they seem to like. If they don't use this blue one I'll stick to other.

Anyone else bought these big cattle blocks?

Also a shout out to rack stacker. Bought 4 bags of their regular feed which is safe for winter feeding. I believe it was the owner of rack stacker. He was making his way through Toronto and decided to drop off the sacks personally. Gave me after shirt as well. Nice guy. :)

I've had them out before and the deer use them through the summer. Once the velvet comes off both the bucks and does stop coming to them. I'll likely put a couple out this spring if I feel ambitious enough.

The Rack Stacker mineral is great stuff . I put it out heavy spring and fall and the deer will dig 2 foot holes to get it . I lay down rotten split wood by big old stumps and cover the stump and the rotten split wood with the minerals and the rain will soak it in . Half of one of my favorite stumps is now eaten and as the rotten wood gets saturated it gets eaten also . I also throw a bag of driveway salt down with it . I tried blue blocks for years and they were nothing close to what i use . Get it down as soon as the snow is gone in your spot . Rack Stacker is great to deal with and they have youtube vids . I blend Rack Stacker feed in with my feed which is a combination of 7 different grains and the deer love it , so do bears and every critter like the apple blend .

I’ve put out salt blocks; partly because they cant hurt and partly because they are so cheap at feed stores that little is ventured anyway.

Thing is; where I live its a total waste of time as a hunting technique. Same goes for every last wonder deer feed lure I’ve ever tried. There’s a certain allure to a possible short cut that appeals to human nature. Sucker bait.

I have been putting up rackstacker mineral fountains for 5 or 6 years. The deer hit it hard through the spring and summer but visit less and less as the season goes on. Have shot 3 bucks on stand at the mineral during the first week of bow season so I'm convinced it helps. I hunt different stands once rifle season comes around. Last year's buck came in only 15 minutes after I got in the tree. You can see how the tree has been worn down by the deer in 2 years. Unfortunately this mineral site is in need of a rebuild as my brother in law had his bush logged and they dropped a tree knocking over my mineral tree.

Down where i hunt the tresspassers usually steal the salt blocks so i bury them with just the flat edge showing. The deer find them

Really? A 50lb block that costs $12 seems like a strange thing to carry off. If the block is in a swale or depression that can collect water I have seen them disappear overnight in a heavy rain.
