We have a decent food plot within a 300 acre parcel of land that our camp is located on.

The food plot is about 3 acres. It seems to really bring in the deer and should hopefully hold them in the area.

The food plot is located on the northwest corner of the property. We have a deer feeder that we were going to put on the land as well. Not to hunt over but to keep the deer coming in to the property,.

How long do you think it would take for the deer to get used to the feeder, its a tripod model with a black 45gallon drum as the grain holder, 8 feet high.....

We've been debating holding off for this year as it may spook the deer from the area,

Any thoughts?

I have just put up two home made feeders. From the looks of things the turkeys were in them before I even got to my truck. And if the turkeys are there the deer will have no problem with them. The only thing I would be worried about is the noise from the motor. Dont have much experience with store bought one.

I don't know about initially but once they accociate the food to the noise it will be a dinner bell. I have hunted over one at the in-laws in SK (leagaly) this first time I had it go off while hunting It sure scared the crap out of me.

Numerous times I have seen deer come in minutes after it went off.

I herd this once on Wild TV, they were talking about the whole design of an area placement of food plots and defined do not disturb bedding areas. The idea is push them out of the bedding area and they will leave the property especially a big buck and any deer pressured off of the neighboring properties will gravitate to that area too.

Seems like a sound idea, I don't know how possible it is on your property

true for the most part. Southern ontario deer see so much activity, they dont spook easily. I walked a trail and ran into a heard of deer three times. Each time the just bounded away till I was out of site.

They're not scared of them, I've had them come and lay down about 50 yds from the campfire one night.

Here's a pic from last year of my feeder. Last weekend a bear got at it and beat it all to hell but I've got it up and running again.

Hmm I expected as much with regards to the deer getting used to it, and fast. The older hunters Im with there seem to think it will spook the deer. I'm not going to argue with them..

Haa I'll just put it up somewhere else and shoot a big ol buck 100 yards from it, the pictures will prove them wrong

I feed the deer all winter long to, the kids get all excited when the winter yard comes down the driveway for dinner. Fun having 10-15 deer fighting over pecking order outside the door.

It won't take the deer long at all. They are even seen near the cows with the tractor going. They just get used to a situation, and react or adjust to it. If all the stuff is there, it would be normal in a matter of days.

I just got the automatic feeder off of Ebay and used an aluminum garbage pail to mount it on. It came with the mounting bracket stencil so it was a piece of cake mounting it.

A 50 lb bag of whole corn kernals will last well through season but it depends on how much you have it set for to. I've got mine set on just the morning feeding cause they get used to coming in at night like last year. It shoots out about a pound of corn every morning right now. Keeps em around and busy, I ain't trying to fatten them up, just keep em around.

You are going to shoot a buck???? All the bucks in front of you at 20 yards so far this year, aren't good enough??? Or do you get buckfever so bad, you can't hold your bow up??

Oh now the gloves are off eh Waterfowler....... Anyone could have shot those tame deer coming around. I prefer to wait for one with a little meat on its bones
