Yes I want to use my shotty for deer hunting.

Now: should I buy a deer barrel or just get a longer barrel so I can shoot buckshot and slugs out of it? Ive got a HP9-1 that I would like to upgrade so I can use it deer hunting.

I'd just go to the range and see how that 14 inch barrel does with slugs.

Jay said it all. There is nothing more unpredictable than a smooth bore. You might find that a "half bead" at 75 yards will do the trick.

I have shot just el' cheapo Federal slugs outta my 14" barrel. Just for fun though.

Ill get a pack of the winchester supreme slugs and see how they are.

Is there any benefits from having such a short barrel for slugs or no (smooth bore)??

i use a 20 inch smooth-bore with slugs and i am very pleased with the accuracy. Anything inside 100 yards anyways. Let us know how the extra short barrel does.

I've used the plain jane Winchester 1oz 2 3/4" Fosters outta my smoothbore w/IC choke and comfortably fit all 5 slugs in a paper plate at 75yds.
The barrel was 28" though if that makes a big difference?
