I'm looking to get into hunting deer with my Browning X-bolt .270 Winchester. I'm sure there are a bajillion opinions out there, but in the plains and forests of Alberta, what would my Bushnell 3200 Elite be a suitable scope?

If not, I'm not too terribly concerned with a price tag, though more economical is preferable. What would you guys consider to be an appropriate magnification? It should probably be robust enough to put up some rough handling, and the glass reasonably clear. On a similar note, I need to get a good handle on shooting outdoors at significant ranges, like 100-300 yards instead of 40 yards inside a heated range. Would changing the scope significantly affect my results for testing out reloaded ammo?

i just picked up a Leupold VX1 3x9 at wholesale a couple weeks ago for 229.00$ mounted it on my ruger .270 and i am very pleased with it.
quick bore sight and i was shooting good groups within a half a dozen rounds.
they were selling of their remaining stock of these maybe they still have a few left?

Nothing wrong with the 3200 elite. 3-9x magnification is about right for hunting (deer). Most hunting shots will be taken between 25-200 yards and 3-9x is really all you need. Many people think that higher magnification is better, but when it comes to that quick shot and the pressure is on, you definitely want to be able to ge that deer in your sights without hesitation.

That being said, I am not partial to Bushnell, there are a lot of scopes out there that will suit your needs for a couple hundred bucks.

Also, enjoy every part of hunting, if you see nothing, enjoy the peace and quiet. Hunting is always a nice way to get away and relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Omineca source for sports (check in the dealers tab) has the Leupold VX-1 on sale for the same price as WSS, and the Burris Fullfield II on for $180. I think Redfield are on sale at WSS and cabelas right now.

Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9 is fine scope for your application specially that you have one and you not improving much going to Leupold VX1 , VX2 or Burris Fullfield.
I have Elite 3000 on my 243 and not planning to change it unless would malfunction.
