Deer hunting with light muzzleloader loads

A 70gr charge with a patched round ball is about equal at 50 yards to a 100gr charge with the same projectile at 100 yards.

What range would you be comfortable with that at?

I wouldn't hesitate at 100-125 yards. My shot was at about 40

the load i use in my lyman deerstalker is 80grains loose pyrodex rs over a 285 power belt.very little recoil that even the wife shoots.took 2 deer with it so far, 1 at 60 and another about 80 yards.60 yards bang flop, the 80 yard shot made the deer jump about ten feet in the air and it went about 20 yards in the bush. huge bloood trail but ther was also a foot of snow in the ground.a lot of percusion cap locks have a maximum of 90 grains of loose powder. go for it .
