Looking at the above two guns to hunt deer with. Like the short barrel and pistol grip. I mainly push the bush so these specs seem logical Any thoughts?

I've heard that M2s often don't shoot to point-of-aim with slugs, while the M4 is an excellent slug platform.

Not sure if that's relevent to the ghost ring versions though.

And yes the M2 is both substantially lighter and better balanced.

m4 is heavy as a mojo and the barrel is only 18.5 then add in your one ounce slugs. would not want to carry that for any extended period of time pushing through bush. another option to consider would be a tac ord versamax

The Versamax is at least as heavy as the M4, although its balanced a lot more neutrally than the muzzle heavy M4.

yea but its more suited for hunting as the barrel length is more of an adequate utilitarian length. 18.5 is for 3 gun and defence/ breaching sweeping and clearing not hunting. it can be done but why when there is better options for hunting

Not sure how much of a difference barrel length makes when hunting deer, especially with slugs, assuming he's able to use those?

your right i sold my m4 so i could get a shotgun that would do it all including 3 gun. I think the versamax from tac ord fits the bill for 'me' keep in mind I'm going to use it for bird hunting not really shooting slugs. i guess I'm brow beating my own logic even if it doesn't fit the OP original question. longer barrel higher velocity? lol thanks for putting it into perspective. ps the versamax does come with a nifty sight rail as well lol ill shut up now carry on

You can get the M2 Tactical with ghost ring sights and it'll shoot slugs and buck shot just as well as the M4 will, and a pound and a half lighter.

With that said, I love my M4.

Both are great shotguns, the extra weight of the M4 takes a bit of the recoil out, but the M2 may be a bit better for long term hauling. And with the M2 you can take the rear ghost ring sight off, and change out the barrel to a longer barrel (Not that they're cheap or anything, but the M4 has 1 flavor of barrel)
