Something like a winchester model 100 in 308 with a 4x scope is another option...not much recoil, not to excessively heavy,and good hitting power.
 
Between the compacts, ladies and youth rifles out there now, there's lot of choice for the ladies. More important to find one that fits her well. My wife and daughter like shooting my Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5x55 eventhough its not a perfect fit for them, the recoil doesn't scare them. My wife also like shooting my Win Model 88 in .308.
