So me and a group of about 7 others from one of the camps I hunt were sighting in our rifles at a local gravel pit owned by one of our members.

6 of us had sighted in our rifles, maybe over 30 shots had been taken. the shots were fairly close together, not rapid fire or anyting but fast enough.

Our target was set up 100 yards from us. Well right in the middle of shooting, 2 does and a small Buck walked out of the bush about 50yards to the right of our target and 50 yards up on the top of the pit wall.

The three deer watched for a bit while we shot then went back in to the bush. We kept shooting. About 20 minutes later the deer showed up again maybe 100 yards from us on a grassy hill.

I was shocked they werent running at the sound of the shots, I guess they knew they weren't the target...

I remember being at a shoot on Base Gagetown and a bear was sitting on the side of the range eating clover... Darn buggers know when they are safe, ha ha ha.

Cheers
Jay

deer are curious critters... this same thing has happened several times at the range out our way (burke mnt, poco b.c.)
old guy i know gets his deer every year while cutting deadfall for the winter. He's shot many bucks that came to watch him running his chain saw

turkeys do that around my house.
out playing with the shotgun blasting grackles (they attack the robins and other helpful birds. so its a open season on them around my place) look out across the river ans see a flock of turkeys with a couple jakes and a big male out away from the rest. watching me shoot the other birds.

never see them once hunting season starts though. they just dissapear.

Amazing isn't it. I was hunting ground hogs - fired over a dozen shots in 2 small fields.......crossed a fence and there were 3 deer standing there looking at me.

They have read the regs.......
They see your honest face...........

Why are they not around when the seaseon is open??????????

We were shooting at our private range with V rifles & two deer were standing 30yds to the right of the backdrop pulling & eating apples out of a tree
Didn't even run when I pulverized an apple less than two feet of ones head
Sure diff actions from huntin season.

I have heard the chainsaw one many times, I am sure that the deer know that when they hear that sound there is an easy lunch just around the corner from all the nice leaves and buds that will be laying on the ground after all the cutting.

Last summer I was shooting at my range set-up and after firing a few groups I had 6 bucks walk out of the bush, single-file, and down the fence-line. No camera though:rolleyes:

Was at a gun range where shooting had been going on all day and a deer walked right across the top of thr rear burm at 50yrds.

Deer are used to thunder noise. However, the moment you start to walk around and hunt, the deers are gone. Your hunting posture and walking and sneaking around sets the alarms off with the deer, and they will be gone into hiding. Often, I have shoot a buck that was together with a herd of deer, and the rest of the herd will not take off, until I walk up to the killed buck !

:eek::runaway:

Boy would I like to hunt there!
I have seen a herd of 4 in hunting season but unless it's spring in the fields of S Ont I have never seen a herd.
