I'm thinking of getting a single shot shotgun (break action) with a rail to mount a scope. Then I was thinking of putting my .44 mag 7" rifled adaptor in it to hunt deer with. Is .44 mag good for hunting deer? Any good shotgun options that already have a rail installed?

The question is why? A 12 gauge slug is way more powerful than a 44, and almost certainly more accurate out of a gun it was designed for

You may want to call the mnr. Just remember, if the co that checks you out feels it isn't kosher, you WILL lose the gun on the spot. You will probably get it back again after you pay the fine or fight it in court. You can't have shot a gun with irons or a rifled barrel, because I find it very difficult to believe any insert would be more accurate. And just how many slugs/cartridges do you think you will need to go deer hunting? Also I think I would prefer a gun that allows for a quick follow up shot. You may also want to move this over to the hunting section.

For the amount of shots that would be taken while hunting with it, why not just go out and find an H&R Tracker 12 that is fully rifled. A 7" 44 insert will still have the same velocity as a pistol. At 100 yds, that would be stretching it, where as the rifled 12 would do it with ease.

Good advise

Yes, if you are hunting in a shotgun area in Ontario you can not convert it to (essentially) a rifle by adding "parts" and claim it's still a shotgun simply because it looks like one. You may think it's splitting hairs since you could fire a sabot containing a pistol bullet, but if Mr. Game Warden came along and you were putting anything down the spout other than a "shot gun shell" (containing any legal load) they may NOT see things the same way you do.

If you feel strongly about it I would contact the MNRF and ask them if it's ok - the "but guys on this website said" probably is not a great defense if you are charged with using a rifle in a shotgun WMU.

If you don't hunt in a shotgun area then use a rifle.
