So I’m trying to get into hunting. But don’t even have that license yet.
I’m north of Milton ont.
Last night my son and I crossed the street to look at a fallen tree and noticed a trail when we brushed away leaves we found deer tracks I’d say pretty recent too. We followed it and found other trails and a clearing
In the trees. I know we can’t shoot guns around here anymore but not sure about bow hunting. Any hunters nearby wanna check this out with me and maybe teach a noob a few things.

Good day Dozer

Theres a few things at play here

Land in southern ON is almost entirely owned. There are very few public land areas for hunting. In northern ON (say generally Muskoka and north) Crown land is aplenty and you can hunt it for the most part. You need to find out who owns the land you were on and ask them for permission to hunt it (or even be on it). Forested land isnt public land just because theres no buildings visible. If its owned by the City of Milton, Id be shocked if they allowed hunting on it.

Which brings us to the next point: discharge

Most municipalities will have a map or written statement about where discharge is not permitted within them. In many communities in the north this is basically only the city proper. Many of them also do not differentiate between guns and bows. Discharge is discharge no matter what it is for the purpose of this bylaw.

You have some research to do on who owns the land you were on and also if you can even shoot on it the first place.
