Gentlemen,
This is a report of a problem with the Handle of the Op-rod. It was handled by Mr. Art Tuttle Who as many of you know was Mr John C. Garand's right hand man at SA. If you have the time read this report and it will give you some idea of what was being done on problems with M1 Garand Production. Also note the date on the report. I hope this lets you learn more on the history of the M1 Garand.

I have made some mistakes on some of the sites I post to and I will have to stop posting to some of them. If you don't see me on the site you go and you still want to read my data and files then look around. I will still be posting on the others. Sorry about that but it was my fault.

Interesting problem that does seem to have been noticed nor reported. One thing I have learned in shooting the Garand is to use the heel of my hand to hold the op rod back while I insert the clip. This also puts light pressure on the operating handle thus diengaging it from the internal latches. It appears this is what Mr. Tuttle was suggesting in his comments. I have seen guys get the "M-1 Thumb" by trying to push the clip into the gun with their hand raised and not touching the gun at all. The thumb is the only appendage coming in contact with the gun...soon after this you hear profuse cussing, and see a bright red digit.
Good info.
Cheers
