Old Remington 597 banana mag failed & can't seem to find replacements in Canada so ordered 2 of the smoked Promags.

Took them to the range and was embarrassed as I couldn't get them loaded, one would only take 9 and when unloading the last 2 wouldn't feed-up.

2nd mag took 9 or 10 and the follower jammed halfway down and completely seized.

They are non-serviceable and the dealer I bought from tested some of theirs to find the same results.

Taking a carfeful look at the non-serviceable design and the manufacturing quality would indicate this performance may be expected.

Just a heads-up...

You’re lucky you got all that capacity, I got a free one that only holds 7.

It’s a promag, so ya get what you get. They don’t have engineers, cause fck geometry, just slap a spring in a box and sell it. Junk.

Only promag mags I ever owned that actually worked and were made pretty well were 10 rounders for the S&W 745.
Now they are from an era long ago when I guess promag could actually make a mag...

I must have gotten lucky because the one promag mag I have for my marlin 795 works pretty darn good. I heard bad things online about them so I only bought one to try, but I've been thinking about getting more...

This is a follow-up to the OP. I also bought 2 promag 22 round mags some time back and seemed to be stuck at 9 or 10 rounds max. I couldn’t find any pinning or restriction system and just chocked it up to a bad purchase. I put them away cursing under my breath.

I recently came back to the mags a while ago to give it another go. Long story short, they do indeed take more than 10 rounds. I found by disassembling the mag, screwing around with the spring (good luck) and giving the mags insides an abrasive cleaning, I was able to finally force in 18 to 20 rounds. Due what I can only account to as bad design, you have to really force the rounds in. It does get hung up from time to time, but I can finally get 20ish rounds in consistently, with soar thumbs by the end of my shooting sessions. Maybe a Savage A22 is in the cards (more crappy mags?)
