Degreaseing new m14 and good plce to shoot

What do u guys recommend for degreasing this thing? Should I degrease the stock along with everything else?

One more question, where is a good club in south westeren ontario to shoot this bad boy?

by grease i believe you mean cosmoline?

just throw that ##### in the dishwasher if you can.

Then grease it up!

Where are you close to? East elgin by Alymer is the nicest club I know with an outdoor rifle range, but twin cities between waterloo and stratford has a 300 yard range as well. Oxford outside woodstock has a nice facitlity as well.

Varsol (aka mineral spirits). Cleans off cosmoline easily with a plastic brush. Field stripping and dropping the whole thing into a vat of it for 24 hours works best though. Then clean the way you always do and oil the steel. The stock will need some BLO as well.

I'm probably going to be joining Burlington soon.

every other club either has dumb rules, dumb hours, dumb restrictions, or dumb prices.

Any hardware, home renovation store will likely have one or the other if not both.

Look up both and decide on what you like. Home Depot has two kinds of Tung Oil(I happened to have passed by last week).

Tung Oil was used to cure M1 Garands and M14s as official use btw.
Linseed Oil was used on '03 Springfields.

BLO gives a glossier finish most of the time and this is the basis for TruOil as well.

Actually, I checked and some Tung Oil finishes have some BLO added as well, basically for the shinier finish.

Oh and some here have really nicely oiled up the Chuwood stocks and they look great! Ardent had one with a M14 for sale some time ago and it looked sweet! Sand, oil, sand oil, build it up slowly.

The oil will also cure and harden the stock, especially Tung Oil.
