First police agency I am aware that has done this:

SIG SAUER, Inc., announced that the Delaware State Police has adopted SIG SAUER P320RXP Pistols which features a factory-installed SIG SAUER Electro-Optics ROMEO1Pro red dot sight.

This will very soon become the norm amongst all police forces.

We've come a long way from the old S&W Model 10!

I know these red dot sights are fairly durable but I wonder how they will hold up to general issue in police forces.

Well US Army doesn't share your opinion. Love the Glock but the 35 year old technology has been upgraded by most companies out there now, with natural grip angles.

I would have to agree with you on that one. Glock was and still is a fantastic handgun, but the grip angle has always caused it to paddle upstream.

You can train through the grip angle though, so not a huge thing....just funny when people say it's perfectly natural!

I remember carrying the old revolvers with flap holsters! What a disaster. I think the red dot being issued to police will have some serious growing pains. I see how some members take care of their issued sidearms ….

Yes the flap holster with the swivel that always turned the holster upside down at the worst moment, then the flap would suddenly open (worst possible time) and presto! One Model 10 on the floor and the fight is on!

Now we know why they had the lanyards, it wasn't just for horseback riding.
