Delete thanks!

You're set up for a rail, get one. Then put on one of the following: Eotech, burris firefast or XTS speed dot, aimpoint mirco.

On the non optic side, tritium sights of some sort.

And a side saddle.

You can copy mine for a start!!

Knoxx Spec Ops Stock (which you don't need)
Mesa Tactical Saddle Rail (6 shell)
Bushnell Trophy Red Dot Scope
Hogue Overmolded Forend Grip
Universal Flashlight mount
Fenix L1D Flashlight

Thanks guys! For the saddle, is Mesa Tactical the best way to go? As for the rail, I saw an x-long LaRue and some shorter ones. Which type and brand of rail should I go with?

When I was looking at shell holders, rails etc, what sold me on the Mesa Tatical Saddle was the combination of both the rail and the shell holder. Its also almost ridiculously easy to install as well. Less then 5 minutes. If you go with a 6 shell, I think your factory forend may be ok as you have the tactical model, but double check, I had to replace mine with the Hogue as my factory forend couldn't cycle fully because of the saddle.

You could always go for a shorter barrel (14", or 12.5") if you want a more compact, or door busting gun.

Definitely get yourself a good 3 or 2 point sling, preferably one that doesn't use either of the sling swivels, but wraps around the stock and attaches to an aftermarket front sling mount. If you feel the need to repel out of a helicopter, like Delta Force or something, you could also look into a single point sling.

Lastly, if you got the cash to burn, look into a SureFire fore-end.

Wow! Very thorough! Thanks!

Well, the saddle and the front sling mount are on their way! My next question is regarding the top rail. The Rem 870 receiver is already drilled and has four screws set in each hole. As I looked at some rails, many states they require the receiver to be drilled and tapped.

For example, Brownells has a badger ordnance rail with a set of 3 screws. Does most of the shotgun rails fit in the Rem 870 factory holes or do we have to get specific rails? If so which one to get??

In addition to Track-Lock sights, I'd also add a Wilson Combat follower and a Vang Comp domed head safety. It works better with pistol grips than the large, flat safeties, IME.

Did some research and it seems like the Badger rail #500-20 is made for the Rem 870 tactical. (it will fit the factory holes) Anyone knows where I could get this rail model??

Well got some parts for the upgrade, I posted pics on the Tactical shotgun thread.

One thing though about the Knoxx stock... the gap between the Stock tube and the curved section above the grip bugs me... Man that's ugly. Is there anything to do about it?
