Hey guys as the title says. I'm shooting 400yrds plus now along with a friend of mine. This issue we are having is being able to spot. We are considering possibly hooking up a wireless camera but its hard to find a transmitter that will go further then 100meters. As of right now i have a Leupold 60X spotting scope and it doesn't seem to work that great because anything past 30x is so sensitive that if it shakes the slightest u can't really see that great. Anyways all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is curious we are currently shooting with a 10x nikon scope and a 16x leupold mark 4 lt.

I am in the middle of building a system.

Some good information found here:

After some research i have come to the conclusion that my Spotting scope and video camera will only get me so far before the distortion from the horizontal column of air prevents me from obtaining a clear image (400-600 yards).

Thanks for the link. I reposted this thread in the precision rifle forum rather then here after deciding i may get my hits there because this is unrelated to actual competitions and events.

Question Are you trying to spot hits on the ground, then direct shooter to target. Or are you trying to spot hits on paper or steel?
Shoot prone then the table doesn;t shake. buy a better scope. Buy a Konus Konuspot 20-60x100 Spotting Scope from opticsplanet.com they have a sale on there. You can see 308 hits on paper out to 500 yards. Hits on steel to 1500 yards. Hits in the dirt or snow out to a mile.

I've always viewed spotting as one of the biggest challenges involved in shooting long range. However, 400 yards should not be too tough, depending, of course on what you are spotting......meaning target and background. As Tigrr mentioned, many of us regularly spot gong hits (and misses) out past 800.......but it can get very challenging farther out.
With this in mind, I set out last fall to come up with a video spotting system. Several have been built, and there is some great discussion on snipershide about it, but I found real experience and assistance scarse.(There was even the commercially built "Target Cam", or whatever it was called, but it was of questionable quality and usefulness at best.)
Anyway, I finally found a knowledgable individual to assist me, as I was almost completely ignorant in the required fields. My specification was to reach 1.5 miles wirelessly. With his kind assistance and recommendations, I now have all the componants, and have tested the system at short range. As soon as conditions permit, I'm going to test at longer ranges, after which I will report on all my results. If successful, I hope to showcase the system at the Nordegg shoot, as well as my shoot later in the summer. As well, again, if successful, I'll pass on the compoment sources etc. to any who are interested.
Stay tuned.
