Ha! I think that's the rifle I almost bought.

I decided against it when I found out the bolt head was a #3.

Funny, I think the rifle may just need a diff bolt. I tried another bolt with a No.2 head and the headspace was great. Would not close on the no-go. Might be a real easy fix.

Either the pics you posted must only be visible with some fancy Canadian ranger gear, or you failed to post pics. Either way the problem must be fixed.

That IS the rifle I almost bought.

I would have scooped it if it has a #0 or #1 bolthead.

I also would like to know it's history.

I have no friggin clue. Too many variables. The Savage action throws me for a spin. Could very well be a heinz 57 - plain and simple And that's OK with me!

Yes they did. This rifle looks like it was going through the CAL refurbish process. Greenish park & reddish wood. I had a Long Branch with the same finish on the metal and similar wood.

I thought that was the '44 Maltby I just bought until I saw the darker butt and shiny-er bolt handle. Same wood on mine too.
