It will never be matching again since the original front band is long gone. IMHO it's not worth anything more than any other non-vet-bringback K98 any longer. Too bad really.

In reality, it will never be matching again. And stock and bands is a big mismatch, so I'd say worth around 500 max as a sporter for someone to restore. Sucks so many were cut but that's what people needed at the time. Even restored with a stock I think your only looking around 600 maybe more if someone really wants it.

It is sadly now an unmatching rifle.

I think your best option is to put new wood on it (I have helped you out before and if you contact me I can put you in the direction of someone who could at least get you a stock with the right WaA's and correct buttplate etc for the year of production).

As the metal is all matching with just any K98 stock on it, I would say about $500-600.

If you get the right wood on it (WaA's etc) you could probably do better $600-800.

If you had all the matching wood pieces/metal and you repaired it, slighltly more.

However, I don't think this rifle will go over $1000, no matter what you do.

So,

I have a byf 41 K98, all matching #s, excellent metal. But.... I don't know if it was a bubba the hut or a Vet bring back gun. The stock was cut in front of the action, then cut again at the rear band. I don't have the front piece. I do have the rear band but no cleaning rod, sight hood, front band, spring or bayo lug. Those pieces I have as unmarked components except the rod and hood which are easy to find as originals.

The guy removed wood to move the band back one band-width so the HG (matching #s) was also shortened. I am shaking my head on this. All Waffenampts are present on the stock and HG, and matching serials in the barrel channel, bottom of stock and inside HG.

I have another piece of cut off walnut stock that could be spliced to replace the front. The HG can be replaced (don't have another right now) or perhaps a splice/repair as well. So I have three directions I can take - repair, replace the stock with a laminated one I have or sell to someone as a 'kit' to repair it as I am not a wood guy and would have to get someone to do it for me. Not sure how to value it - an original unbuggered one would be over $1000, what do you think this is valued at?

It is incredible how many serial numbers are on my byf 41, stock, action screws, I think even the cupped butt plate is serialed if I remember correctly.

I love the deep blue and solid walnut stock of this model and age. Very classy rife when its all complete. Alot of this era were Luftwaffe marked as well.
