What is better for hunting? like better pattern? not concerned with length, like being to long? just want a better pattern..

Barrel length does not affect the pattern. It has more to do with sight plane and swing.

It can be said that barrel length may help to achieve a complete burn from slow burning powders..... but, that's a lot of theory and math that's over my head.

Oh, okay so pointing and aiming at a beavers heads, ducks and geese a 32" barrel is not needed. It would be more for clay shooting..

Thanks again..

Choke type and constriction, size of shot, forcing cone length, barrel back bore, all will determine your guns pattern. Not barrel length.

Smoothness of swing, sight plane, balance, pointability speed, are all affected by barrel length.

Smokless powders have dispensed they maximum effectiveness for velocity within the first 18" of barrel length. So more barrel length has no effect in that reguard.

You will find the shorter the shotgun the faster it is to point, which also makes it very whippy and easy to over swing, stop your swing, which in short causes you to miss. Too long a barrel makes the gun slow to get on target, and thus can also affect your timing, sight picture for lead etc. and your ability to hit targets consistantly.

General rule of thumb, if your an avid upland shooter where your birds are close you will need to get on target fast so the shorter gun/barrel set will be best. If your primarily a duck/goose hunter you will benifit by the smoother swing of a longer barrel/gun.

Answer: find a gun that fits you with a barrel length your comfortable with for the shooting your doing. Then shoot alot to get good with it. 10,000. rounds per year should keep you sharp.;)
