Demonicals Bear

I just got off the phone with Ken Walker 20 1/2"Green Score.

It will probably shrink to 20". Still a pretty good bear...

The bear was an incredible "meat head" according to Ken, so the initial size estimates were thrown off by that (as he had cautioned me). He thinks when the hide is fleshed and shaved at the tannery that it will let out well over 7'. He actually said that would likely add a foot. Ken said in looking at the teeth it looked like a young bear, just entering it's prime. It had lots of growing to do.

I know this bear has a good bloodline and I am already looking forward to spring 2007.

I know the feeling. Mine scored 19 8/16 And the head was huge. Still a beauty bear. May take you a long time to top that one.

dw yea take your fingers and hold 'em 1/2" apart... it's such a tiny amount, but it might as well be 3"... I have a real appreciationfor a 21" skull now that's for sure.

Hey that 1/16" thing is funny too... technically mine is 20-8/16".

Man I cannot wait for spring bear hunting in 2007!!

Very nice skull non the less...
Demonical yours is still qualified for award, it is 20" for B&C and 21" for all time B&C.
Now that being said; how would you fell if it was 2/16 short ? &@#$&* :D like mine...:p

What is the length and width? and did you measure it with or without bottom jaw?

bojano, Ken Walker measured it, I did not witness that. I didn't get specific measurements. I bet Ken has seen more bears, through taxidermy and guiding, then you and I will see in our lifetimes. I have no doubt about the score. Bummed out a bit I guess... right now I'm not thinking about entering the skull. I would have if it had been 21".

But I had a great hunt. I experienced something that I suppose most hunters will never, ever see or hear. Two bears mating!? Holy crap! It was an amazing encounter!

I went out there looking for the bear that was laying down those XXL footprints in the area around my moose hunting camp. Likely this is a different bear, I mean what are the odds of getting that exact bear? But I will continue to hunt for a real buster of a bruin up there in the Swan Hills and maybe I'll get a genuine 21" bear one of these years. Like I said, the bloodline is definitely there.

Btw, Pete and I went back to the spot where I shot that bear and I checked out a few things.

No. 1, the bear was actually on my side of the creek, not the other side as I had initially thought. I paced off the distance to where those 2 bears had been. They were somewhere between 25-30 yards when I fired.

Also (that was Jun 13th) 9 days after I shot my bear the carcass had not been touched by predators, which I thought was amazing!

Wow, look at the size of the bear's feet! I can see why the beartraps are so big now if they have to catch hold of a foot that big.

Such glossy fur as well. I wish I could get a bear like that. Only I'd want a live one. To tame. And then unleash on my neighbours' little poodle that yaps and keeps me up all night!

But you didn't keep the meat?! Why not?

- Dave.

Gotta drag this one up outta the deep past. Remember this bear? I shot this black bear June 4 2005 and the cinnamon bear was shot May 24 2004. I don't remember if I ever posted pics of that bear, on this site. Maybe I wasn't even on CanadianGuNutz then. I think maybe I joined a week or something after I shot that bear.

Today I finally picked this guy up at the taxidermist's, along with a cinnamon bear. Yep, been 5 years at the shop... the cinnamon bear 6 years. I got nothing...

This big black is kinda hard to describe, the rug is just square. It measures 6'8" nose to tail. The cinnamon bear measures 6'6" but looks small beside the black one.

I don't know where the hell I'm gonna put 'em...

^ When the skull was skinned out, I was told it measured 20-1/2" green. The skull was boiled to clean it, which I believe shrunk it. I have the skull and it now measures 19-12/16".

It's an awesome rug... :runaway:

Regardless, he's huge!

Maybe he wandered over from Vancouver Island, one of the new category "Island Black Bear" that are huge but rarely reach a 21" skull. ;)
