I recently bought a whole bunch of Lapua Palma 0.308 cases which I'm now trying to deprime. The stock decapping pin that came with my Redding 84155 die gets stuck in the flash hole, so I bought Redding part number 01057SPL/P -.057" pins which don't get stuck. The problem is that these smaller pins aren't captured by the pin retention mechanism in the die because they are too small.

I have tried reaming the flash holes with a 0.0625" reamer, but the stock pin still gets stuck.

I was considering putting the stock pin in a drill chuck and filing the bottom half centimtre down in diameter, but before I do that I was wondering if anyone else has solved this problem before?

The entire de-capping stem/expander plug can be unscrewed and replaced.

If you contact redding and tell them what you need and why, they will likely provide it at little or no cost. They are excellent.

I managed to solve the problem by tightening the retaining compression nut very hard with a set of pliers; I had been doing it finger tight previously.

HI there.. I decap all my lapua 308 brass with a Lee Universal decapper.. Works great for everything I use it for all my pistol brass 9mm, .40 cal and .45 ACP as well as my 223 brass... I busted off the pin recently but a buddy with a drill press fixed it for me..

Don't ream out the flash holes. That will reduce accuracy. Lapua made them small for a good reason.

Thanks. I only added 2 thou to the diameter and I'm running a factory 700P barrel so I think it's not going to make much difference.

Thanks for the tip. It will have to go on the list for when the missus gives me my credit card back.
