So I got my Derya MK10 from Down Range Supplies today. I bought it knowing there were many negative reports about how it functions but I figured, why not give it a try and see if the others are just unrealistic about it. I got a deal on the Crimson Red version. Which wouldn't have been my first choice but it does look cool. So, whatever.

It arrived in the mail TODAY. Like, this morning. I opened the box and yes, the case is sweet. It immediately gives you a "This is a quality gun" feel. Open it up and everything looks pretty good inside. Nicely laid out, oily but otherwise clean. I pulled out some of the extra pieces and checked them out. Heres my thoughts:

-Chokes
A joke. They feel and look like garbage and they aren't marked so without actually measuring them with a calliper you'd never know what they were. Those came out of the case and will be in my spare parts bin ASAP.
-Folding stock adapter
One of the most disappointing aspects of the gun as a whole is the fixed and folding stock adapters. I thought they would be aluminum. They are, in fact, plastic. The folding one feels sturdy now, but after 1000 rounds how is it going to feel? Ill never use it anyway.
-Sling
Actually quite a nice piece. Ill never use it. But its nice that its included and, again, its a nice looking sling.
-Clamp on front sight
This makes no sense. But, its also junk IMO. Its plastic and, if installed, it wouldn't survive any kind of abuse. I don't know how your supposed to get it perfectly centered anyway so I see no purpose for it.

The 3 mags included are all very nice. They're finished well and feel sturdy. Followers are smooth. No complaints here.

Now the gun. When I First picked it up I was surprised at how light it is. I was expecting something more substantial. Still, its finished nicely, no rough spots and the 2 halves fit together great. Very slick system but more on that later.
On thing to keep in mind. The little lever on the left just above the mag release is a bolt HALF hold open. Its used for disassembling and re-assembling the gun from what I can tell. I havent read the instructions yet. But it seems like this is what its for. If the bolt is not locked back with this lever the 2 halves wont go together.

The giant red muzzle brake looks pretty ridiculous... awesome too... but ridiculous. Its SUPER light. Too light IMO. It feels cheap. It does work, but I just thought it would be more substantial. Works its way loose pretty bad but It think I just need to crank down on it more.

The sights on the gun. The post front and the carry handle rear. Bummer dude. They are plastic. DO they work... yes. They are actually easy to use. But plastic on a 12 gauge? The front sight just clamps on the rail with a spring loaded button and can be removed by hand. It didnt fall off or come extra loose. Nor did the carry handle. But I just don't get the plastic for these parts. One drop and they'd break right off. Its not a big issue for me as theyre coming off to be replaced by a red dot. But I was surprised. Still... they DO work.

Mags fit in the gun fine. They don't drop free but aren't overly tight. Smooth insertion as long as you insert straight up. If the mag is on an angle it wont go in. Ive read reports that hitting the mag on insertion will cause it to lock the bolt and get stuck. Mine did not do this at all. I could slap the bottom of the mag as hard as I wanted with no negative results. The mags lock in tight with a click. Non ever fell out.

All controls on the gun work as expected. The mag release button can be tight if the mag is full and has pressure on it. But otherwise it works fine. The bolt release was SUPER tight at first. So tight I couldnt press it with my finger. Had to be slapped with the palm of my hand. After 100 rounds it loosened up alot and works fine now.

Trigger is good. Nothing amazing or horrible to report. You wont be hitting 1000 yard gongs with it. But thats not what this gun is for. Note: The trigger is.... Plastic. Blah.

Grip and stock are both nice enough. Grip is comfortable. Didnt come loose> nothing fancy but very useable. The stock is strange. Its sticky and gritty. Its comfortable though. I may try a CTR on there at some point but the only complaints I have about the stock are when your actually adjusting it. Which only happens once per use. So they are a non issue IMO. Interesting note... the stock must be fully open to fit in the foam cutout in the case. I have no idea why.

Now on to actually using the gun. The area most people are most concerned about.

I went straight from the post office to the range. I didnt clean the gun one bit. In fact I didnt even wipe off the excess oil on the outside of the gun. I took with me 67 rounds of Dominion low recoil slugs and 68 rounds of dominion low recoil 00 buck. As well as one box of 25 remington Gun Club target loads. The cheap stuff. I knew from my reading that the gun needs about 100 rounds of heavier loads to break in. Then it SHOULD run the target loads OK.

I started by alternating 8 rounds of 00 buck and 7 rounds of slugs (the leftovers in 2 boxes from my last range trip). The buck ran well... though there were a few stove pipes and one complete fail to eject. Nothing jammed. No issues with feeding. Just ejecting. The slugs ran pretty bad. Lots of fail to eject and alot of jamming on the feed ramp.

I then ran a full 25 round of the 00 buck through. By the last 5 rounds the gun was feeding and ejecting without issue. All 3 mags ran the same. Ejection pattern of the hulls was consistent (20 feet to the right rear). The next 25 rounds of slugs was bad. Still, tons of FTEs... almost every other round was a jam on the feed ramp. After investigating things I found that these rounds are SUPER short. Way shorter than your average 2 3/4 round. because they are so short they don't pivot upwards hard enough when the bolt picks the round up and they get jammed into the lower edge of the chamber. If you look at the feedramp/chamber transition on this gun you'll see there is an abrupt and sharp shoulder on the chamber. This seems like a bad thing and, if your using really short shells it is. But on anything even close to a 2 3/4 shell it was not an issue at all. Dominion low recoil slugs are out. Though I did finish of the 2nd box of them I brought along. So 57 round total.

I finished up with 25 more rounds of the 00 buck. I could fire slow, super fast, didnt matter. They all loaded, fired and ejected great.

To end things off, i decided to risk the box of target loads. These done really run well in any of my guns. But I wanted to see if the 115 heavier rounds were enough to work the gun in to the point it would feed the lighter loads. And, to me absolute surprise, they ran PERFECT. Not a single issue in the 25 rounds. Tried all mags and they ran perfect. Actually ejected farther than the 00 buck shells did. My next outing will include a few different brands of target loads to see if they all work as well. Btu as it stands, Im pleasantly surprised with how this gun has broken in and run.

Heres some pics of the gun after I was done 130 rounds. Its dirty, but doesnt show any issues other than the area of the upper where the pin from the lower locks in is showing obvious signs of wear. Which is concerning since this is only 130 rounds. Ill monitor it and if it continues to get worse ill call a dealer and see what theyre saying.

The chokes are all horrible, replace with Benelli Mobile chokes you will see a world of diffrence!!! (The metal crappy chokes are old school notched to tell what size they are).

The Slugs I suspect you bought the same discount ones everyone else did that are actually challenger 2 5/8 shells not 2 3/4 shells! Regular 2 3/4 slugs full power work fine.

Couple secrets I have learned, if you rest the mag on a bench or anything like that you will get FTE or Stove pipes (don't ask why but 100% tested and confirmed). 3" shells FTE but clear and feed with just a quick pull of the slide. Have never had to baby a mag in or get a mag stuck(unless you didn't pull the bolt back far enough, not the guns fault). The 2 round mag will hold and feed 3" shells just fine (although see above problem with 3" shells).

Did yours come with that awesome Bolt knob? If so need to find one aftermarket the one on mine is sharp (tossed out the stupid rubber pad). Eats my gloves for breakfast.

One more secret, if you think your bolt is jammed closed, make sure to take it off safe.... Yes I pulled most of my gun apart before realizing that was the issue.

Yes, the slugs are just the cheap Dominion Arms ones from CanAm. They are short and are the cause of the problem. I have no doubt a normal 2 3/4 slug would fire great from this gun.
My comments about the mag getting stuck were addressing the review video I saw from CTCS I think it was... the reviewer was saying if you hit the mags home, they will jam and jam the bolt. Btu that hasn't been the case for me.

Mine did come with the bolt knob. Its the newest version. Bolt knob is great. Very easy to grip.

Heres a further update. I got bored this afternoon and picked up the cheapest case of 2 3/4 target loads I could get from Canadian Tire. Federal target. $40 for 100. I went out and fired all 100 of them in fairly rapid succession, 20 mags... not a single issue. NOT ONE. Anyone who says this gun wont run with target loads clearly hasn't spent enough time with it.

I am more concerned now about the wear on the upper receiver where the pin on the lower locks into place. After only 230 rounds it starting to oval. I wonder how long it can go before it gets loose and possibly fails. I feel that a steel insert in this area of the upper would be necessary and would solve this problem.

Heres a video of 10 rounds, 2 3/4 target loads... fired fast. No issues.

Interesting note. As I washed my hands after this last shooting session I noticed the sink had a red tinge to it. Even after my hands were washed my left hand, which is my forward hand and grips the hand guard, is stained red.

Non of my comment exept the one were directed at you just my general stuff I found... I do not have any wear marks on mine at all, however I have the Black one. I wonder if that lovely grease coating they put on it is partially wearing the paint???

I just gave it a quick wipe down tonight and the white paper towel was VERY red... I hope thats not the finish coming off and its just residue from it being manufactured.

No worries, I knew you were just commenting in general. I appreciated the tips.

Gave the gun a BIG clean up last night. FULL tear down, right down to the firing pin. Gun comes apart quite easy and re-assembly is pretty simple and straight forward. Only 2 threaded rings to undo (by hand) and one pin for the firing pin. Everything else just comes off.

Cleans up easy though I do have to say the gas ring (not sure what its called) gets REALLY dirty... after only 230 rounds I had to scrub the build up off with a brush. I don't think this is a "run it and forget about it" gun. Which is fine really. Cleaning it is kind of fun.

Whats not fun is how much of the red finish is coming off. I had a bucket full of bright red paper towel when I was done. I can already see in a number of spots the finish is getting extremely thin and uneven. Going to have to talk to down range and see what the story is. The finish is not looking acceptable after only one day IMO.

Otherwise, like the gun alot. Need some extra mags, thats for sure.

I have 6 5rnd and 3 2rnd mags, think that is enough for now. Really wishing I could have a 10rnd just for some 00buck fun. Took it in the bush last night looking for turkey only found Hens. But I carried this and my 45-70 (bear and coyote) for 3 hours constantly walking and came to the conclusion both are really light as I carried both and was not tired or sore at all. I'm only 5'9 150lbs which leads me to believe there are a lot of whiners out there lol. Also has a decent wait Vortex Spitfire with high mount on it as well.

I just installed a Holosun red dot. Looks good and I've had good luck with them in the past. Will get a few pics up with it installed soon. Do you have any issues with the finish coming off? Black or red?

My finish is black, no finish coming off just the oil they scrubbed all over it. One I got that off with oil remover I gave her a good rub down with Frog Lube CLP and haven't had any black seeping or flaking, yet.

I have one in Camo....had it since march 31st but havent had a chance to get out to the range yet.......the camo finish is kind of a wrap on the metal but my reciver is black, we'll see i'll post im heading to silverdale with it tomorrow

The red finish is very week it's just a die job in the final stages of anodizing

You can see through it is many stops
Which means it not hard anodizing
So that could be the reason for the deformation of the aluminum
With mil spec or even just stright hard anodizing this would make the surface as hard as 4140 steel.
That said even untreated 7075 alum should not show that kinda of damage
Maybe it's 6061 ?

For $1300 I would be contacting the importer foranswers

Sent a message to down range and they promptly got back to me. Ill be sending them pictures of the finish and the deformed pin slot and we'll see what happens.

Ive seen pics of the other AR style 12 gauge shotguns on the market right now. In particular the 1919 match and after seeing some of the parts i believe the internals are nearly identical to the MK10... but I noticed the connection between the upper and lower is very different. Im sure this is why. You have to figure, a 12 gauge semi is going to put alot of pressure on the upper/lower connection so it would have to be very strong. It doesnt appear to be on the MK10
