I just watched a video from Shot Show showcasing the Derya TM22, imported in the US by RIA.

I'm intrigued. If reliable it looks like it might be fun plinker at an inexpensive price point ($300 US). Kind of looks like a rimfire FX9, and it would appear that you could use a buffer tube type stock. The best news is it uses proprietary 10, 15 and 25 round magazines.

Any dealers out there with irons in the fire about this one?

Is this even imported into Canada? I mean the RCMP changed the FRT for the Derya MK12 shotgun to prohibited as they claim it's an AR variant.

Good question. I don't know...that's why I was throwing it out there. I think it has more in common with current PCC's (JR carbine, FX9) than it does with AR's. What the RCMP thinks god only knows, based on what it is and OAL it SHOULD be NR in Canada.

With Derya stating it is compatible with AR stocks will make it a variant according to the horsemen's thinking....

Based on what they did with the Mk12 I figure this one will be immediately prohib in the FRT should it get an entry.

Boy, would calling this an AR variant be a stretch...but we're in the land of PM Black Face too. I might be interested in trying this thing if it's priced OK, but the buttstock looks like an afterthought and the door-breacher-type end on the handguard..? Ouch! lol A buddy of mine has an MK12 dry-docked, hard to be optimistic.

Thanks for posting this btw!

While I would LOVE to agree with you, the SFSS (RCMP Lab) has decreed that the mossberg blaze 47 is prohibited, yet the regular mossberg blaze is non-restricted... So it's all over the map...

Is this is a Turkish manufactured (licensed?) copy of the RIA Mig 22 originally manufactured in the Philippines? Or is it still Philippine manufactured but Derya branded?

There seems to be some small changes in design and aesthetics from the RIA manufactured Mig 22.

I have the standard RIA model...

...and it is a nicely built firearm but it does have it's quirks. Disassembly is a pita kinda like how you need to disassemble a JR carbine. And even though it appears to utilize standard AR furniture it does not due to metric threading.

The machining is superb. The trigger is amazingly light and smooth however pull is long with no distinguishable point of break.

My only gripe is with magazines. The factory supplied aluminum mag functions flawlessly however the polymer mags you buy if you want extras are a disaster.

Hopefully the mag issue is resolved with the Derya branded model as it appears to utilize a different magazine than the RIA manufactured firearm.

If the manufacturing quality of the Derya model is on par with the RIA AND it does indeed take standard AR pattern furniture AND the magazines prove reliable then I see this as a must have.

Hey Jay-if you reread my post, there isn't much optimism in it. lol I actually considered citing the Blaze, as it's the example I use whenever scary-looking .22s hit the market. If a mostly-plastic, AK-ish semi-auto 22 is on the no-no list that fast=there isn't much cause for hope in Canada really. I was pretty stoked when I first saw that Blaze 47, but felt a little better when I finally handled the Blaze our overlord's let us have. lol

If the importer was smart I suspect they would apply piggybacking on the already existing NR frt for the RIA Mig 22. Not that that's a guarantee but it's a good start. This is not a brand new firearm design.

Interesting that I say anemic, and your mind immediately goes to women...

Hahaha my bad... I was thinking about how the Derya model looks sleek and slender compared to the RIA model and somehow in the few seconds I had to scan the thread and reply to your quote before I had to get back to work I could have swore I read anorexic..

:HR:

They also prohibited the Mossberg 715Tand 702 Plinkster Tactical 'in the FRT'. SBRS for sure

There is a 12 year old even more vindictive version of Murray Smith running the lab now I think

So I reached out do O'Dell Engineering who have imported Derya firearms in the past and asked if they were looking at bringing these into Canada. They replied there is a good chance, and they are going to try and to watch their dealers for updates.

So that's better than a flat out No. Fingers crossed.
