Far too many people (especially Americans ironically) disparage the French war fighting mentality. France is a nuclear nation with its own nuclear warheads, missile subs, strategic air force, and rocketry. Their small arms, the MAS 40 to 49/56 line in particular are the essence of simplicity, and show very reasonable spiral design theory of change what has to be fixed and work on fixing the small stuff in good time.
