I know the topic surfaces from time to time, but I want fresh and up-to-date perspectives.

I am really wanting to buy a brand new Desert Eagle in .44 magnum. For those who have owned and shot these guns, what are your opinions? I won't be firing any reloaded ammo; just factory stuff.

Thanks!

Feels great, but imo a novelty item or something not to be used frequently. Kodiakghost could probably provide a better explanation of why it likes to jam a lot

If you relaod don't buy it, unless you really rich or don't plan to shoot it much...

I've shot a DE in .44mag and .50AE and if I'll ever buy oneit would be the .44mag version; very little difference in recoil but much chaper to shoot.

No reason not to use reloads in it - just stick with copper plated and fmj bullets.

A guy let me try his in 44 at the range. It was a big honking piece of great fun. Sure grabbed everyones attention .... especially the fireball. He told me it cost 2 or 3 thousand but I would probably guess 3. His wife was there and he said shhh don't let her hear lol. I would get one someday just for the novelty but it would not be my mainstay. Hopefully I can run into someone with a 50 to try out before I decide to do it.

I've had one in 44 mag for about 6 months but the sucker got expensive to feed and I sold it. No problems with them on my end. The occasional stovepipe, but thats because the sucker is heavy and I limp wristed the bad boy after about 150 rounds. I shot all factory AE 230 grain.

As stated above, it is a novelty gun. There is no good reason to shoot it on a regular basis. There are many better guns to buy that you will get a lot better use out of. Having said that, I have had one for about 10 years and I have no plan to sell it.

I only shoot reloads in mine in order to keep the cost down. I have a number of other 44s so I have a reloader setup for this calibre.

44 magnum is so much more practical for this gun than 357 magnum or 50AE. There is no point in having this big a gun for a 357 magnum. The cost to shoot the 50AE is a little to high for most of us. Even reloading the 50 AE is pricey.

The problem with the D.E. is that there is not practical use for it here. You can't hunt with it. You can't use it for any of the combat shooting sports. Bullseye shooting? Yeah right! There is no point to developing any skills with it. It's only purpose is to fulfill the "but I want it".

Two weeks ago I found out this old ex-gunclub member had a D.E. in 50 AE for sale. I made him a reasonable offer but he seems to think it's made of gold. It was probably one of the worst finishes available for a Desert Eagle. I have no real desire to shoot one in 50 AE but I still wouldn't mind owning one, just because.

I love them!!! I have had a bunch through here, have shot most of them, and they're fun :) I think everyone should buy one. And then trade it in to me on something else, then I sell it again...

DE's are similar to settling for a 250 lb girlfriend who sports a 40" waist and a constant yeast infection. All while settling for nothing but the most expensive designer clothes and food... Same level of fun and headache for both.

the inability to load lead and the reliablity factor got me- i had the opportunity to acquire one of these back in the day for 1049- the guy was going overseas and needed the cash- it was in chrome/stainless/shiny whatever, but i just couldn't see it for 2 extra shots , no holster, and big and clumsy-over the next little while , the store was held up and they got the de

So.......for some people they are a lot of fun?:D

I had a .44 DE and got bored, sold it and got a .50AE . Now I have fun. Bought it used and the first thing I did was order a complete spring kit for it. I shoot nothing but reloads through it without a problem. Here's the trick to shooting the big caibers.... You have to weigh over 300 lbs, be 6'4 and have very big hands......lol
