For the second time I was looking over a Desert Eagle .44 mag at the local gun shop. I have to admit I really like this gun. The price really kicks me in the a@# though.
So I post these questions......
Is it worth the cost ? Does it have any flaws ? what if any, problems have you heard about or seen yourself. I dont care if its second hand info, I want to hear it all.
I want to put to rest if this gun is worth the cost.

It is a fun gun. You will not get as much value out of it compared to a 1911 or CZ75/85 etc. I shoot my DE about once a year. More often than some of my guns and a lot less than others. It gets most of it's wear from being trucked to gun shows.

how does it fit your hand? the grip is pretty large so if you have small hands there might be a problem.

btw have you shot one? the gun does have a bit of recoil (muzzle flip)...

^ if there is no problem with the above and you have the money than buy one if that's what you want...

It fits really well. As far as recoil, my .44 Redhawk should have more recoil. So Im good there.

So then maybe its for sale, lol. ??????

DE is made extremely well. the .44 is more accurate than the .50 but not by much. Heavy, clunky. but has a #### your pants effect on the BG's.
get a sweet 1911 or nice Sig. instead.

my .02

Unfortunately, it really depends on how rich you are. If it means that if you don't like it you have to sell it to raise money for a replacement, I'd say it's not worth it. Why not go all the way and get it in .50 cal, there are some new ones (.50) for sale in Canada, recently I saw a .50 in BLING.

If I got a Desert Eagle, which I dont think I will, it would be the .50 (Go all the way)

However If you want the baddest handgun on the planet, get a S&W 500!

IMO, the Desert Eagle is not worth the cost from a utility standpoint. The XIX does give a buyer the added utility of being able to shoot .357mag, .44mag and 50AE - you have to buy another barrel and magazine (.357 - bolt as well). Its very heavy and the larger calibers are very noisy. Some indoor ranges may not have an adequate backstop. Accuracy requires experience, strength and discipline. Purchased new, it might take 5-8 years to get your money out of it, as they do increase in value. Purchased on the EE, it will only increase in value, as long as you look after it. Most owners do not shoot their Desert Eagles on a regular basis - .44 mag is fairly expensive and 50AE is VERY EXPENSIVE and can be difficult to find.

The Desert Eagle is basically an expensive toy. It is a lot of fun to shoot. The look, noise, recoil and the muzzle blast - especially from the 50AE is just soooo awsome. The Desert Eagle in an impressive handgun! If you already have a 1911 or similar for everyday shooting and are looking for something a little bit different, more fun and more powerful, the Desert Eagle is a good choice. The Desert Eagle is more forgiving and absorbs recoil more than similar calibers in a revolver.

While I said you would get more value from a 1911, CZ75/85, etc. I don't consider the Desert Eagle all that expensive compared to a lot of other quality guns. Don't compare the price to a Norinco 1911. I bought mine in 1997 for $850. I was looking for a .45 but there were none at the gun show. I figured a .44 was close to a .45 so why not? ;) It was my second gun, the first being a Ruger Mark I.

It is a toy. Big and heavy. Most people shoot it with two hands! Mine is in 44 Magnum. I wouldn't even consider it in 357. Way too heavy a gun for that. If you are looking for lower recoil with the 357 then you probably should be shooting something else.

I consider the 50 AE too expensive to shoot (others will argue this) and more power than you can use. Unless you can go hunt with it I don't see the point. If you do buy a D.E. in 50 AE then make sure you charge your friends what it costs per round. Everyone wants to shoot one.

Unless you shoot it very little you really want to reload your own ammo.

The Eagles range in price from around $ 1000 used to $ 1900.00 new. Thats in .44 mag. I did see the .50 for $ 1599.00 But I also think that the ammo would be a pain. It seems that this is a VERY fun toy to shoot once a while but overall it seems that the 1911A1 is the way to go.
Do not get me wrong, if I have the money in one hand and the Eagle in the other its coming home.

I reload .50AE for about $0.60 each (speer 4490 TMJ, AA#9, reuse the brass as long as possible). Still pricey, but a lot less than the $2.50 the local stores want for it.

You simply can't beat it for flamage.

I just called Wolverine Supplies and a Standard XIX black model (cheapest) is >$1900 +Taxes, shipping, etc.

With that said, I got a PM from someone on the boards with very good condition DE VII .357 in black + 3mags for $1200. If interested send me a PM :)

I think most of us can look back and remember the first time we saw the DE in a movie and thought.."What a cool gun!!", I'd love to have one in .44 mag as its one of my very favourite cartridges, but I have too many hobbies on the go and can't justify the cost of one when I could have many!

But does the quote "Quality before Quantity" apply with this gun ? It is in a class of its own. This is "the" large caliber automag. Is there anything else out there like it that is available ? I know there are other automags but, where are they and how much ?

Well you tell me, 2 glocks G37, G22 purchased new and a mint condition stainless Super Blackhawk for about the same price of a new DE. I think I got some quality there with a little bit of quantity.:D
