The DE is such a great toy to play with, nothing practical with it, but damned fun. My main complain is the magazine capacity which, in my case is limited to 8 rounds of .44Mag (I always wanted to shoot an IPSC match with a DE :D)

Now this is purely my 'first-step' reflection that I wanted to share with you guys.

I figured that one of the limitation of the magazine capacity was due to the use of a rimmed cartridge, which wastes quite a lot of precious space, problem that was in part fixed many years ago with the now nearly defunct .44 AutoMag.

I was wondering if it would be possible to take a .44Mag DE and make it shoot a .44 AutoMag derivated cartridge without heavy modification of the gun : I am thinking of taking 308 brass chopped down to .44 magnum length, and turn down the rim to match the 357Mag rim, this way we would get a lightly rebated-rimmed cartridge, a bit like the .50AE. The objective would be to shoot the gun using the .44Mag barrel and the .357Mag bolt, and if my maths are correct, with the new rebated-rim cartridge, the mag capacity would jump from 8 rounds to 9.

Am I completly daydreaming or would this be a realistic project? Are the locking lugs of the .357 bolt are even at the same place than those of the .44Mag bolt?
