Today was a great day for me. Had the chance to shoot a Desert Eagle, both the .44 Mag and the .50. Had a huge stupid grin on face the whole time. Pics to follow....

I've done just over an inch at 50 yards, rested with a scope in a .357 DE. They are accurate.

I don't know about "poor pointability" - we aren't talking about a quick-draw gun here. Just aim the thing and squeeze. Grip size suitability is a function of hand size, and yes you need bigger hands.

I heard Desert Eagle pistols were inherently very accurate, but because of their large grips, poor pointability and balance they were difficult to aim.
- Dave.

Don't forget heavy (mine is 72 oz empty) and poor triggers.

I have lightened up the trigger on mine but have not got around to getting rid of the grittyness yet. The long trigger pull I will leave but it also does not help shooting accuracy. But better safe than sorry.

But I still love the gun.:)

Found the 50 had a heavey recoil compared to the 44, but nothing harsh at all. I haven't shot handguns that much, so just hitting the paper made me pretty happy, target is roughly 18"x10" or so. I want to get a .40 soon though and improve my shooting through practice. My handgun experience is nothing compared to some on this board, but I was very excited to be able to shoot the Desert Eagle.

Do people that slam the Desert Eagle own one or have they even shot one? I own several different hand guns including a .44 Desert Eagle and I REALIZE it is not meant as an UBER TACTICAL everyday carry combat gun. For ####s sake, everytime a thread is started about a Desert Eagle some brain surgeon has to state," it's not practical", or "I heard they jam alot". What a load of ####. The gun is a large blaster meant for fun, not daily carry, ipsc, or to be compared to glocks, HK, etc.. Taken for what they are a Desert Eagle is an extremely accurate large caliber handgun, nothing more implied, and nothing less.

If I ever had the money (and I'm not sure I ever will) I would definitely pick up a chrome .44 mag DEagle.

But ultimately, it's more of something you just oogle at. Something you want to have, but never have...because it costs > $1500.

So true. The DE is not a tactical gun, because of it's size it isn't even a possibility for any sort of CCW/routine carry. It is a target/hunting purpose handgun. DEs are used in the movies cause they look cool and imposing.

remind me to not bring the .50 out if King AK comes shooting with us.
Your .44 should probably stay at home too dude!

I had a 357 Desert Eagle that I bought in 1986 and it was a really fun pistol to shoot, the only problem I had was feeding. I tried many handloads and even bought the recommended ammo from the list in the manual, still had problems. I sold it many years ago but it was pretty impressive even though it was only a 357 Mag.

The only experience I have with one, was one a friend bought, and then sold 6 months later.. Jam, Jam, Jam, Jam. different loads, lead copper it did not matter.. even had it sent back to the Manf, and stil had problems on the return.

Seems like it's a very common problem with them.. . so in reply.. no I haven't heard.. I saw it first hand.. Jam'O'Matic.
