Desert Tactical Arms SRS

I own an SRS with 308 and 338 LM conversion kits.

In many regards, it is a great design (modelled after the DSR 1 afterall) and after a little work I've been able to get exceptional (.5 MOA) accuracy out of the 308 barrel. I'm still working the 338 LM but there is no reason it shouldn't follow suite.

The size, weight, balance, flexibility, and portability of the SRS makes it a standout amongst other long range rigs. My previous far-shooter was a TRG-42 in 338 LM and I would never dream of packing that brute out on a sheep hunt, which is exactly what I'm doing with the SRS.

My SRS in .338LM with 26" bbl is 2 lbs lighter and a foot shorter than an AIAW in .338LM. I was the first person to shoot a DTA in a tactical/practical rifle competition and I found the ergonomics and balance point of the DTA to be a tremendous asset. With the balance point of the rifle being just forward of the trigger it is extremely easy to shoot in any form of positional shooting. Adding a 18oz. suppressor does very little to change that balance point. I find no problem working the bolt of the DTA. I can take the triggers down to 1 lb with zero creep and make it rival any jewel trigger out there. I prefer my personal triggers to just above 2 lbs, but I like knowing the option is there to do anything I want.

I also like the fact that I can have ONE rifle in any caliber I want. I can buy ONE scope, the LOP on all my calibers are the same, the trigger is the same, the weight is the same, the balance is the same, the feel is exactly the same. I can go from .308Win to 7WSM or to .338LM in under 1 minute. My .308 shoots in the .3's with 155's or 175gr bullets. My 7WSM shoots in the teens with 168gr Bergers, and my .338LM is a less than .5 MOA with factory Corbon ammo. I did a LE demo last week in SC with my DTA rifle and the first group out of the rifle was insane, it performed and returned to zero exactly like I needed it to exactly when I needed it to. CBS was 1/2" low but the next 4 rounds went into a group that would measure in the zeros. They kept the target and one gentleman watching the group through the spotting commented that if he didn't see the dirt splattering on the berm behind the target he'd swear I was shooting off the paper. Another was heard saying "who the hell is this guy?" after looking at the group on the target. The .338LM shot under .5MOA with 5 different shooters. All that while sending a 300gr Lapua @ 2850fps.

I've broken in and done accuracy testing on dozens of different bbls in DTA rifles and all of them have shot excellent. They do offer a .5MOA guarantee after all. I've won 1000 yard matches with the DTA in 7WSM and that combination makes for the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

The SRS is an awesome platform, I've built/shot it in 6.5CM, 6.5x47, .260Rem, .308Win, .243Win, 300WM, 7WSM, and .338LM. I am currently building a .338WM bbl for a customer that wanted to go that route instead of the .338LM based solely on ammo availability and price. The very next project on the drawing board though is a .338Whisper conversion for the owner of the company. Another huge advantage of this system is if you decide you want another caliber for this rifle, you don't have to send it in and wait for the conversion. You simply call us on the phone and tell us what you want. In a few weeks your caliber conversion shows up on your door steps. You slide it in and start shooting. It really is that simple. The Desert Tactical Arms Stealth Recon Scout is the most universal sniper weapons platform on the planet, period.

Take that for what it's worth from a civilian trigger monkey, gunsmith, and competitor.

*Disclaimer* I am a DTA dealer, but I put my money where my mouth is and I stand behind the platform, the factory conversions, and the custom conversions we build for the rifle. I have targets and videos to back up my claims so please toss the BS flag so I can brag a little more. I am the only dealer specifically listed on their website anywhere other than the dealer list.

Pretty convincing write up, I must say. Never heard of the shooter/gunsmith so I can't comment on that angle, but the write up sure is glowing.

This is one of the guns on my current want list and has been for some time. The availability of parts in the future is my biggest hesitation, but as the company gains traction, my fears diminish.

I have been familiar with this line before it was a line....If you like a bullpup design they are amazing rifles but don't tell Nick I said that please... ;-)

Mildot, here are a few shots of my SRS:

This is the DTA softcase, which is a very nice accessory for the rig:

The softcase doubles as a shooting mat, hence the large flap:

The softcase secures the rifle, scope, another caliber conversion, bolts, clips, tools, spare ammo and whatever else you can cram in there:

Here is my SRS with the 338LM barrel and an S&B PMII 5-25x56 (I also have the 308 conversion, which pairs nicely with the 338LM):

The above posted review is on the money. The availability of the DTA barrel extension opens the door for virtually any caliber. The ergonomics of the chassis and weight distribution make the rifle more portable than any other long range rifle on the market. Furthermore, the fact that you can easily separate the chassis from the barrel makes carrying the rig even easier.

I'm bringing my SRS with 338LM setup on a 10-day stone sheep hunt this Friday. The walk-in is around 25km. I couldn't imagine packing any other 338LM over the terrain we will be experiencing, however with the SRS it's very manageable.

Thanks plainSight Solutions
i refuse to deal with restriced firearms, but love anything i can freely transport and hunt with

daym this website finds a new way to spend money everyday

Thanks for the pics, I was/not a fan of "bullpup" stocks however I really like this rig. After seeing it perform on the MIL channel "Top 10" I became enamored with it.

The price is reasonable for what you get and the quality. If I lived, say out west where I could "stretch its legs" I think I would be buying one. However its just too much rifle IMO for a 100m range.

I really like it when its set up with the suppressor!!

Good work and I agree an excellent choice for a "sheep hunt". I did an elk hunt years ago and humping a rifle up and down the mountain can wear a fellow out.

BTW what are the "standard" barrel lengths for the .338, .308, and the 7mm?

Mildot:

308 barrel is 22"
338LM barrel is 26"

There is no standard 7mm barrel for the SRS...I may have confused you with the 7mm Finnlight I mentioned. The other factory calibers available are 243 and 300 win mag.

I should also mention that DTA has another chassis available in the US: the DTA HTI (hard target interdiction).

The available calibers of the HTI are: 416 Barrett, 374 Cheytac, 408 Cheytac and 50 BMG...a gun like that is almost worth a divorce!

Those are optimum lengths for both calibers. I think, I am thinking about buddy in the video posted.I suspect that you can get a "custom" caliber for the 7mm, which I think would be a great choice, that or .300 WIN MAG. I took my first elk with that.

Keep us in the loop with respect to this rifle.
Is Target Sports the importer?

Cheers

You could indeed get a 7mm, or any other caliber your heart desires, by getting a barrel extension from DTA and having a gunsmith work it.

The Shooting Edge is the importer - that's where I bought mine. They have a fresh batch coming in soon (it may be there now).

And I'll be sure to keep y'all updated...especially if I hit a nice ram at the distance that I'm wanting to shoot one at.
