if given a choice of years, currently being sold in gun shops, what are the most desirable years to own for a Mosin 91/30?

also , other features to look for when purchasing a Mosin 91/30 would be helpful.

Get a pre war if you can.

I picked my 38 Izsvesk out of a bunch of war times.
The quality of the machine work is much better, but I heard the war times can shoot too.

Check to see if it is counterbored. check the bore.
Try and get one that has a bayonet that fits. Most shoot much better with the bayonet on.

Cheers

Hardest to find MN 91/30 by Tula dated 1941 and any Russian made MN 91/30 made after 1945.

If you're in it for a shooter I'd just go for bore condition and a decent trigger. I know we're talking Mosins, but mine all have heavy yet decent triggers rather than draggy mushy ones.

Taking a cleaning rod and some patches with you. I'd carry a jag with me and use the rod in the gun. Most decent shops won't mind you passing a patch or two down the bore to get the loose dirt and oil out to get a general idea of condition (though one guy did act like I had peed in the holy water, so ask first).

Also look for ones that are on sale ;)

I know the going rate is about $180, but I've not bought one in the last year that was more than $150, or even $130 at the LGSs
