I was looking into getting a DTA SRS

http://www.deserttacticalarms.com/guns/precision-rifles/dta-srs-sniper-rifle-chassis.html

I like the idea of being able to fire 6.5mm and 338 LM out of the same chassis and it seems that they have the bullpup trigger issues taken care of. I'm also sick of lugging my current 338 around since it's just too bloody long and heavy.

I stumbled upon some info in the regs while reading some magazine regulations....

Referring to regulations prescribing certain firearms as prohibited fire arms....

"2. Any rifle, shotgun or carbine stock of the type known as the “bull-pup” design, being a stock that, when combined with a firearm, reduces the overall length of the firearm such that a substantial part of the reloading action or the magazine-well is located behind the trigger of the firearm when it is held in the normal firing position."

Here is the link to it..

http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-98-462/page-2.html?term=magazine#sched1

It appears that the DTA SRS's entire "reloading action" is behind the trigger.

So I would assume that the DTA SRS would be prohibited in Canada?

I'm well aware of most of our ridiculous gun laws but this one (if i'm reading it correctly) takes the cake. In Canada you can legally posses a variety of non restricted rifles in the same calibers offered in the SRS platform in lengths that are shorter than the SRS. So is the bull-pup config prohibited because some liberals thought that it "looked scary"?

I'm hoping someone who has more experience in interpreting Canadian firearm regulations could shed some light on this for me.

Thanks a bunch.

Hi newb...

Bullpup stock legality threads are for Tuesdays. Try the search function to see the previous answers to this question... And dessert is that meal after a meal...not a place with little rain...

It's cool and interesting rifles like that, that make me really hate being a lefty.

And not prohib as it is a manufactured entity, not "a stock [being] combined with a firearm".

I looked at one of these also but you can literally buy 7 factory rifles for the same price(or 2 customs). or 10 handguns.

Thats $7000 without the $2000 optics.....does it at least come with a case??

Don't think it comes with a case... Looking at the prices further it seems that it might be steeper than 7k in Canada. Unless I find a used one. Oh well. :(

Its 7K$ for the gun, soft case, scope mount, sling, 2x mags. Then all you need is the scope, mount provided fit both 39 and 34mm scope.

I've put a S&B 5-25 on mine and its fantastic.
