I was wondering why you folks don't offer just the plates for deuling trees? I am a big DIY guy and am fully capable of welding, so it would be really nice if you offered just the AR500 plates in a "DIY Dueling Tree Pack".

I resisted the many requests for this item because of stories I’ve heard from people that tried to build a decent tree from a kit with poor results.
I’m going to add an item for the ‘bare tree’ also, so if the DIY version doesn’t work well enough, customers can come back and buy the rest of the tree.

I’m not sure that I’ve come to the right topic, but you say that you understand welding. I'm considering such a repair and would like to purchase something small for periodic use. Professionals at Theweldingpro.com praise both Mig and Tig welding. What do you think is more suitable for a small one! gun repair DIY?

Plates and spring kits for the Texas star would be nice too. The rest is easy to customize for whatever shrouds or bunkers are required by the powers that be

I’ve built and sold lots of duelling trees. Some have lasted years of public range use. Qt400 plate lasts much longer than ar500. It wont hold up to rifle rounds, but it isn’t so hard that it breaks on the elbow.
Also, I’ve had the best luck with no springs or mechanical moving parts besides the swinging plates. 3/8” plate for strictly 9mm or 1/2” for 9mm and up. 5” rounds as well. 6” is too heavy.

Yes, that was a recurrent problem with the previous design; not enough materials around the elbow caused the arm to snap. We updated the design to reinforce the elbow this spring and haven't heard of any issue yet.

Just an update, my replacement plates are much beefier than the ones that broke. I don't doubt they will last a very long time. Thanks to Range Rabbit for the excellent CS!
